I get so upset when i think about how Microsoft quickly ruined a portion of my childhood. Now, don't get me wrong, I like Microsoft. But when they bought Rare during the early 2000's, one of the best times in gaming history ended. Gone were the days of Rare making amazing platformers and shooters. It confuses me how Microsoft was able to limit such a top-notch company to produce games at only average level quality.
This is why Nintendo needs to buy back Rare. It isn't easy, but if Nintendo were to do it, it would help Rare and Nintendo themselves. So, what do you guys think about this? Do you guys think Nintendo should buy Rare back? And if so, what games would you like them to make?
It's like, I just love a cowboy
You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Thanks Wiggler for your thoughts, but we have plenty of threads like you, that can't let go of their past.
Even if Nintendo were to buy Rare again, many of the original workers left. All the company can do today is make Sports titles. But Nintendo has that covered.
Lets face it Nintendo have gone over Rare and aquired Retro: The New Rare. Making quality titles, and continuing what Rare did. Sure it may take years to go up to Rare's level, but Retro has chutzpah to get up there.

Seriously though, as much as it REALLY stinks that Rare isn't currently with Nintendo, that doesn't mean topics like this have to be brought up and shoved repeatedly at people. There are enough of these topics already, I wouldn't doubt that some people here don't care really.
Backloggery. Now playing: 3D Dot Game Heroes, Donkey Kong, EarthBound Beginnings, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+.

Unfortunately, the only reason why I'd want Nintendo to get Rare back is just for the IPs. The company itself isn't doing well, as many talents left the company since Microsoft acquired it.

You know, at least when I make one of those "Apple should acquire Nintendo" comments:
1) It's within the realms of possibility that it could happen.
2) I can back up my argument for why it would be a good idea with more than "Because I want it to happen to get my Banjo Threeie"
Seriously, has anyone anywhere on the Internet managed to come up with a genuine business case why Nintendo might be able to, or even want to, reacquire Rare?

To take advantage of any IPs Rare has in order to make nostalgiariffic sequels that might make money for the same reason every other game Nintendo's made the past few years has? That's the one I can think of that makes any form of sense in a "want them back" sort of way.
ALSO GUYS NINTENDO OF AMERICA NEEDS TO RELEASE MOTHER 3
I'm going to take the other side and offer the obligatory: if the above posters really don't care / have an interest in threads of this nature.
why comment at all
It's not that they are neutral on the matter. If they had a total disinterest in the topic, they wouldn't comment. No, it's that this topic has been dredged up from the deep so often that they are tired of it, and that's why they are posting. The whole "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" doesn't work beyond the schoolyard.
I don't want to be reminded of this. I just want to pretend Rare is dead so we can talk about how great they were and their influence and importance in gaming.
