Hi.

I'm looking to get my boy a Nintendo 2DS for Xmas.

I don't know anything about them unfortunately.

He likes Fortnite but am I right in thinking you can't get this for the 2DS?

Can you get Fortnite on any of the DS? I.e 3DS?

I would like to replace his Android tablet with the DS also. Can you use the DS in a similar manner as a t tablet re internet etc.

Finally games. Can DS games be downloaded or do you have to buy physical slot in games.

It's been a while since I had a games machine!

All advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

No fortnite on any of the ds line, but web browsing and YouTube and all that, though it isn't to high of quality. You'd be better of getting him a Nintendo switch, as the ds doesn't get support with any really new games much anymore, where as the switch is the best place to play fortnite on the go, and is getting all the new games your son will want, I honestly love mine. It is definetly worth the higher price. It sadly doesn't have a browser though. But this could always be added. To be honest, no game system will replace a tablet though

No, the 2DS/2DS XL does not have fortnite, it has many good and affordable options for your son though. Like Pokemon, Mario, Minecraft (only if you go for the 2DS XL model), etc.

If he wants to play fortnite on the go, the Nintendo Switch has it. However the switch lacks other functions like internet browsing and YouTube, and it's about three times more expensive than a basic 2DS.

The 2DS in either model has an internet browser, music player, access to YouTube via a dedicated app, and three cameras (they're of low quality), among other features.

You can use any video game sold for the DS (black cartridge) and the 3DS (white cartridge), however games labeled as "FOR NEW 3DS" won't play on a regular 2DS, only the XL model.

Old DS games are only available physically, but most 3DS games are also available digitally though the included eShop app.

I wouldn't say it's a tablet replacement, but it has many, many amazing games and other basic features.

An important thing to note is that the 2DS is functionally the same thing as a 3DS, the big difference is that the 3DS models have special screens capable of displaying stereoscopic 3D, and the 2DS have regular screens.

The "New" name refers to models with extra processing power and three extra inputs (two buttons and a second stick), a few games make use of this extra power and buttons (like Minecraft), but overall there's not that many games that require it.
