Here's an interesting thought. How much of the Mario universe are they going to pull in? Is it just going to be the main cast of characters or will we see the likes of Wario, Waluigi, or Rosalina? The Mario universe is pretty big to stuff into a movie.
Hm...Wario and Waluigi could probably happen. They could be the comedic villain duo that you see in certain movies. You know, the two bad guys who're a bit of a couple of cluts. Rosalina I'm not too sure, unless they decide to throw in some space scenes. Maybe we'll see Donkey Kong in the mix. And Yoshi has an extremely high chance, in my opinion.
There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

I don't want this to happen! Its going to be a disaster! Even if the movie turns out positively, Sony will mess up with the image of Mario and I don't like that!
Look at the Smurfs movie.......its terrible and does not even come close to the quality of the cartoon show.
I imagine that Nintendo would make sure any movie tie-in games are off the table just to avoid any potential contract loophole that would allow it to be on PS4, even if Sony Pictures and Sony Computer Entertainment run independently.
I want Nintendo to make movies based on their IPs, but not with Sony studios. They're terrible at adapting other forms of work into movies. They messed up the Spidey franchise and the Resident Evil franchise. From what I've heard, Avi Arad was constantly meddling in the production of The Amazing Spiderman 2 which is why the final product is so bad.
Plus when I think animation studio Sony Studios doesn't come to mind. They haven't exactly put out a disney (or even Dreamworks) level movie. I'd rather Nintendo team up with a studio with some more experience.
Sorry for the rant but I want this movie to succeed because if it doesn't, it will probably be another 20 years before we see another Nintendo franchise on the big screen.
It's hard for me to be worried about Sony covering this. Firstly, this is Sony's movie department, not their gaming department however, both divisions are part of the entire company so it would be interesting if we saw a partnership between the two famous companies. Secondly, the two companies indeed compete, but I'd hardly call it a rivalry. They each grab different markets, and i've heard of Yoshida owning a Wii U and Miyamoto owning a PS4 and both companies do praise each other's success. Finally, where is Nintendo's filming department? It'd be nice to see them try to build a department for that, but I'd trust Sony's division more.
What I'm worried about is story and voice acting. You can't really get away with a blockbuster film full of mutes. And what story. I love Mario, but his only really good and interesting stories are the RPGs,Sunshine,Galaxy or the Super Mario Adventures comic but since I don't know the story,I am going to be skeptical about this.
On the other hand,Sony Pictures Animation is developing an animated Popeye movie for 2016 and after seeing the trailer,I think it's OK for them to go with only if Avi Arad is getting fired.

@iKhan personally I wouldn't. It was a good movie but no where near Pixar quality (IMO). I just feel like there's better choices.
@Shy_Guy I want Miyamoto involved in some way, but I hope they don't give him to much power over the project. I want him to tell the studio how it is the characters should be portrayed and move, and some of the mannerisms each of the characters have, but story telling has never been a strength of his.
I really, really don't see this going well. Mario has never been adapted well to any non video game medium (the cartoons, film, anime and other things were often rather terrible) and I have my doubts the series can be adapted into a good movie.
It's made worse by how I hear this guy tied to the project has a bad track record with adaptations of existing franchises...
