Topic: New PS3 Slim and price-drop....just for PS3 owners who also own a Wii.

Warning: The PS3 runs pretty badly on standard defintion TV's, with some games being letterboxed (like a widescreen DVD) and some simply being cut off on the sides (Warhawk does that, if I correctly recall what my brother said, as does Crystal Defenders). It also tends to look muddier than the Wii on an SDTV for some strange reason (one friend compared PS3 on SDTV to being drunk; I wouldn't know).

So basically, I wouldn't recommend getting a PS3 until you can get an HDTV. I also wouldn't recommend getting rid of your Wii under any circumstances, but then I'm a lifelong Nintendo nut, so you don't have to take that part TOO seriously if you don't want to.

I always recommend getting all consoles if possible (I have them all and use them all for various things), and strongly advise you to consider "seller's remorse" before dumping the Wii (are you SURE you won't miss it later?). Unless it would take you years to save up for PS3, you should really just do that and have them both handy.

I have run PS3 on SDTV before. It doesn't look pretty, but it was functional enough in my experience to enjoy. Just don't strain your eyes trying to read the text. That's the worst part, worse than cutting off the sides of the screen on some games, for me.

As for hardware failures, all systems are prone to hardware failures. PS3s don't break nearly as much as 360s, but probably a bit more than Wiis. I know someone who's disc-reading laser broke, but I had the same thing happen to a Gamecube and my brother's old PS2, so it's nothing new or specific to PS3. I know one person whose HDMI connection was damaged, but Sony replaced it for little cost, and it's not like you're using HDMI, anyway. I don't think there have been many, if any, overheating issues. There is a "yellow light" crashing problem similar to Red Ring, but it is about as infrequent as the Wii crashing. Almost everyone I know who has owned a 360 has had problems with it, but I don't know anyone whose PS3 has crashed.

theres always a chance that a conole might get a hardware failure. there is even a yellow light of death for the wii. but the ps3 and wii have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less of a chance of getting a hardware failure then the 360 so you are good to go there

I bought my PS3 before getting an HDTV and had no problems. I was afraid the graphics wouldn't look as good on my SDTV but I was wrong. The Uncharted demo was one of the first things I played and the graphics totally blew me away. The only problem you might have is that some small text can be difficult to read but I rarely encounter that problem. I now usually play on an HDTV but I still sometimes connect it to my SDTV and I have to say playing on an HDTV hasn't ruined the experience on an SDTV. The games look amazing either way. Also, there are a lot great games you can now get for $30 like Uncharted, Resistance, MGS4, Ratchet & Clank Future : Tools of Destruction and a bunch more. Not to mention all the free demos in the Playstation Store. The demos alone should keep you busy long enough to save up for a game. I don't know if you should sell your Wii but you will not be disappointed should you decide to get a PS3.

I thought PS3 got the yellow light. Doesn't Wii get a white light? Not that it matters. I've never seen either crash, myself, and doubt I ever will.

I have only watched friends play Xbox Live. It works without a hitch. I've never had lag problems like I've had on Wii. As far as features such as party systems and such, that's what people usually brag about for Live over PSN, but I couldn't care less about that stuff. All the games I play have a good range of options and allow voice chat. I couldn't ask for anything else, especially since it's free.

To be honest, I'm not impressed by anything in this generation of gaming. It seems to me most games on the PS3/360 are very much the same as each other, and nothing really on those consoles interests me too much. I agree with you that the Wii is not Nintendo's best in terms of games, but the console itself is great. I just haven't found too many games on the Wii that stuck with me, like the previous generation. I even found myself buying a PS2 just recently instead of buying more Wii games so that I could play the games I missed out on during the last two generations (when I only had a N64 and GCN).

Please dont sell your wii! I'm not against buying a PS3 but you might regret selling it. DONT SELL IT!

Seriously, don't sell it. I understand the PS3 is expensive, but unless you really don't like the Wii I wouldn't sell it. There're always new games to buy, and you don't want to miss out if one comes along you want to buy and you don't have a Wii anymore.

Guys i am selling the Wii and thats final now.
Ok...sure i might miss out on SMG2,new super mario brothers Wii etc etc.
but guys....most games like No more heroes or Little kings story,and MadWorld,those games simply don't appeal to me at all...
Plus..i am fed up with the other consoles getting amazing muilitplatform games.
I think the Wii is awesome....but it just isn't right for me..
I'll say that sure..i'm the type of gamer who loves Online shooting games or loves beautiful graphics (i dont mind wiis graphics tho...)
i just simply want the best console...and in my opinion,i feel that the PS3 is really the best....i'm not a Sony fanboy...not even close to being one but i just really really like the Ps3 and this is my chance to get one..
i'm gonna take the chance and grab one as soon as possible(considering the price....i expect the Ps3 to maybe sell out....i don't want to be calling up Gamestop everyday to see if Ps3 is in stock)

Anyway...like i said before i am still a big Nintendo fan and will be looking out at the new games they bring out.
Maybe in few year's i'll be the one picking the Wii up and looking back at the games i missed out.

Don't sell the Wii then, Sean007s. Why not save your money up and get a PS3? I doubt you would get $300 for a used Wii anyway.
