Topic: New PS3 Slim and price-drop....just for PS3 owners who also own a Wii.

Hey guys...well they did it....Sony slashed the price on the PS3 to $300. (if someone can also tell me....would that be €300 in Europe too?)

Anyway....i was thinking of selling the Wii in for a PS3.....however i need an honest opinion on someone who owns both console and please tell me what you guys prefer.

Remember...PS3 owners who also own the Wii...i only want your comment. thanks guys.
btw i don't hate Nintnedo...but...i just really don't feel like i got my money's worth with the Wii.

They are both good for different kinds of games. Comparing them is difficult. Lately I've played my PS3 more, but that can turn around any week with a good Nintendo Download. I mostly play downloaded games, so I get two batches of surprises every week, which makes it hard to predict which system I'll be playing more of any given week.

Asking what other random people with different tastes prefer isn't going to help you. Look at the list of released and soon-to-be-released games for each system and see which appeals more to you. They are almost the same price now, and Wii is really more expensive generally since you will have to buy a new accessory for practically every game (exaggerating, I know), and there are way too many controller extensions, unlike the PS3 which just needs one controller. If you have any specific questions, let us know. I'll be glad to help out. Obviously the best choice is to get both, if you can.

First of all $300=€212.220.( but ithink the ps3 is €300 )
If I where you I'd keep my wii and buy a ps3 even if I have to wait 3-6 weeks because both of them have a great game library and it's fun to play them. But if you can only offer one and you don't feel money worth on the Wii then I have to say go for it and sell your wii ps3 have the best graphics out there + blu-ray

I love Nintendo but the Wii is really...i don't know....i guess i just prefer Nintendo's old games more then their new ones y'know?
The PS3 console is something i have been wishing for along time but could not get it due to its expensive price.
Considering Gamestop said they'll give me €100 for my Wii console.....i also have the games to sell and Pherials such as Wiispeak and Wii wheel and nunchucks and Classic controller.

I am sure i'd have enough for the PS3 also its my birthday in a few days and i am hoping to rank up atleast €50.
Right now i already have €50 so i guess on my birthday ill have another €50 which would make €100. then selling the Wii would make another €100 which is then €200 and then i can sell the games and such...

Can someone tell me the pro's and cons of PS3?

Yes, I couldn't agree more; however, that's exactly why I won't part with my Wii. Virtual Console has almost all their best work. New Super Mario Brothers and Other M look like they might be a step back in that direction (though I'd be lying if I said I didn't have my doubts about both, considering how little we know). And perhaps most importantly, WiiWare has Gaijin Games and Nicalis. The games I've played from these guys (well, the PC versions of some of Nicalis's games, anyway) come closer to that old Nintendo feel than anything else I've played in the past... well, since the SNES, really.

PS3 has a vastly superior online service, though, if you're into that. Warhawk and Fat Princess are amazing experiences that are not possible on the Wii. FPSes play very well online, and I don't hear .1% as many complaints about it as I have for Conduit or other online Wii games. PSOne classics have been released more frequently than VC games the past few months, and generally better games, too -- of course, VC has many more quality releases already out. There tend to be more traditional and so-called "AAA" titles from third-parties on PS3.

As a gamer who wants retro games and retro-esque games, I really would hate to do away with either console. Of course, I don't know what you consider Nintendo's "old games." Some people consider N64 old, so what's retro for me may just be ancient to you.

Well getting my old games back isn't a problem. the only issue i have to deal with when i sell the Wii is losing just the Wii games....which lets be honest...they are good....but...Nintendo can do much better.

Also...PSN has games like battlefield 1945 which lets be honest...by the looks of it....its almost as big as a Wii game and i lvoed my PSone aswell with crash bandicoot and crash team racing and Resident evil,twisted metal2 etc etc.

I really feel weird doing this as i am a huge Nintendo fan and siding with another company like this feels like im betraying my Nintendo friends...
I still love Nintendo but i just wanna say....the Wii...is not their best.

Haha, brand loyalty is a funny thing. If not for the VC which allows me to have all my Nintendo games on one system (still amazes me!), I'd have sold my Wii long ago, and that felt weird to me, too. I'm glad I didn't, though, because WiiWare is really shaping up, and there are a few retail games I'm interested in. I just got Phantom Brave in the mail, actually, though I could play the PS2 version on PS3 if I wanted, so that's no system seller.

cons:
the only cons i find in ps3 was high price and the Size but PS3 Slim fix this.

all the above and I find the wii more fun than my ps3 so make sure to take your time thinking about this.

I wish i could own both console's but i have to say...the PS3 is better in many way's.
I think the Wii has alot to offer but many developers like i always say....are just making shovalware titles on the system.
I find it annoying that the Wii isn't even getting Mordern Warefare 2 or any other muilitplatform game and thats one of the biggest flaws of the Wii console....its alittle....too unpowered.
anyway..i am also excited to play my old PS1 games again!^^
My mate told me they charge you about £4.00 for Crash bandicoot!!....to me...thats a good bargain lol

Also...oh and tell me...how come the PS3 isn't able to play PS2 games?

That is seriously an issue that needs to be bloody fixed.

Past models had a chip to run PS2 games natively. This was expensive. To cut costs, this was removed. Rumors abound of a PS2 software emulator under works, but Sony hasn't confirmed this. If they were to release this, all PS3's would be backwards-compatible.

From the way you're talking, it sounds like you'd be happier with a PS3. If PS2 emulation isn't a deal breaker, go with the Slim. If it is, stick to your Wii and either get a PS2 if you don't already have one (only $99 new, and probably even cheaper used) or try to get a PS3 from launch which is fully backwards compatible, or one from the MGS4 bundles and prior which were partly backwards compatible (they play most games, from what I know).

I don't like the look of the new PS3 slim....its really horrid in my opinion.
The fat PS3 is just sexy as hell lol

Also yeah..maybe i am better off with a PS3.
I don't have enough for any games...i can only afford the console on its own but still..i can download that HOME app and have fun with that until i get new games!^^

Also...can you tell me what type of scart lead does the PS3 use?..

I don't know what a scart is, so no. But do not get a PS3 only to play Home. You will be greatly disappointed. Keep the Wii until you can afford at least a PSN game.

The cables you plug into your t.v from the Wii so you can get the video and sound.
I was wondering if the PS3 only supported HD t.v's.

Also im sure i can afford a PSN Card to buy Some PSone games^^

My PS3 came with the same connector the PS2 has. It doesn't look very good, but if you don't have an HD TV, it'll do the trick.

I was just curious cuz everyone i know who has a PS3 mostly have Big HDTV's.

I still do not want one but its good they finally slashed the price but I still prefer my Wii. Only two games on ps3 have attracted me Metal Gear Solid 4 and Devil May Cry 4.

Red, White, and Yellow wires connect to the TV, a rectangular connection on the PS3. It's the same connection the PS1 and PS2 had, I am pretty sure, though I don't remember the PS1 well.
