Armageddon was pretty awful, but I saw the first one too many times. Also, IMDB says it's being filmed in my home state. Awesome. Now that I think of it, there is an uncanny resemblance between Outworld and south Louisiana.
It's sad that Mortal Kombat hasn't had the enduring popularity of Street Fighter. I always thought it had more character (nothing to do with the blood, either -- fatalities never impressed me), and it was a lot easier to play.
The first Mortal Kombat was amusing in a B-movie sort of way.
This is not the first time I hear of an Asteroids movie, but I refuse to look it up on IMDB because it is such a ridiculous concept. The game has no story and almost no personality. Even if it's starting some guy in a space ship and there are a bunch of asteroids, it'd be the same as calling a table tennis movie Pong.
Isn't Avatar a cartoon series? They usually make movies about cartoons. TMNT, Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Spongebob...they don't seem to be going anytime soon.

I am slightly ashamed to admit i loved both Mortal Kombat movies.
My favourite reviewers comment for the films was - "Like watching a lot of sweaty fist fights while trapped in the world's loudest night club." - It made me laugh, also Nostalgia Critics reviews of these films was pretty funny.
Also, maybe this will rekindle peoples love for Mortal Kombat games, i think it was much like Sonic in that it went downhill when it went 3D, i would be more than happy if they released the originals on VC download though.
considering we just got the Dragonball live-action flick and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, I'm not surprised to see a new Mortal Kombat movie in the works. I just hope it's as awesomely terrible as the first one was (Armageddon was just craaaaaaaaaaap), and i hope it has a killer soundtrack like the first one too. :3

Actually, Stevie, I almost agree with you, except Mortal Kombat 4 is one of my favorites in the series. I think it was the first 3D MK. It retained most of the 2D simplicity, but you could side-step, so it practically was 2D except for one single maneuver. There was no option for free 3D movement like in some 3D fighters. If they released Trilogy and 4 on VC, I'd be one happy camper.

Hence why the Street Fighter series is still popular, SFIV may have fancy HD graphics, but the game play remains 2D. Tekken and the Soul Calibre series are the only fighters in my mind that have pulled 3D off successfully, now if only MK and Sonic could go back to 2D gaming with jazzed up graphics and i think world peace would nearly be upon us.
