Topic: New Consoles Soon?..

PS4,Xbox720,Nintendo Revolution...out in 2012-2014.

This sorta bothers me...
I just bought my PS3 3 months ago and i bought my Wii back in 2007.
I feel as tho its too soon for new consoles.
These consoles are so impressive with their technology.

This recession,and economy....how the heck can we afford more consoles?
Really,the PS3 was 630 Euro back when it came out....if it was STILL that price......Goodbye Sony.

Now if the next consoles are even more superior in the Tech department....won't they cost more?
This Christmas(While i'm grateful) I am only gonna fit in about 2-4 PS3 games and i'm reduced to buying them Pre-owned.

I feel sick when people talk about these new consoles coming so soon.
Yes its true they have been out for 4-5 years now and in 2012 they will be out 6-7 years,but still...Can't they just wait till the economy gets back to shape?

Do they really think they'll make some money??...
When the PS3 came out...i was literally drooling for one,i was dying to play one but it was too expensive and the feeling of that is not pleasant. Its like being stuck with a Atari while everyone else got Super Nintendo's.

I hope they come out around 2015 atleast

To answer your tech question, no it would not cost more. Technology gets cheaper each year, as we can see in computers. As for the release date, you do have to keep in mind that each generation spans about 4-6 years.

How does it get cheaper?
I mean i betcha the PS4 and new Xbox will cost around 400-500 euro.
If they cost perhaps 300 euro.....yes...thats what we need!
Thats how i got my PS3. it got the price-cut and i could afford it

I just hate feeling obslete. For example Handhelds like DS and PSP getting different Versions....seriously.

Moore's Law

If the Wii got a revision right now we could expect the new version to be able to fit four times the amount of transistors within the same size chips and cost the about the same as the Wii did at launch. That's not necessarily put into raw power, as we saw with the Wii itself, that progress can also be put into making cheaper lower power consumption chips. Or they could do the PS3/360 thing and go more than a Moore's Law step and increase the total price while they are at it.

I think given how successful the Wii has been and how expensive games have become to develop Sony and Microsoft are going to have to pull back a bit. Sony in particular are going to try and make this generation last as long as it can and they already have the potential to push 3D and a "new" controller. Microsoft has to hope that Natal sells. Nintendo will release a new Zelda and nobody else will matter... for a month.

You act as if those dates are confirmed.

Oh, we'll see the new systems out before 2014, I'm sure.

2014 is five years from now.
Also, I knew the next Microsoft console would be an XBox 720 (thanks to Lisa from the PSP The Simpsons Game) and I figured there would be a PlayStation 4 soon (from TSG). However, I'm very interested in what the next Nintendo console is. Maybe it'll sport some great RPGs, and maybe have sequels to great RPGs of times past.

2014 is exceptionally high for console life spans, now. Also, any date thrown out there is just speculation.

Some sources (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/105/1050038p1.html) present pretty good reasons why the next gen probably won't be coming as soon as the current one did. Just like in their reasoning, I believe that only holds true for the XBox 360 and PS3. Nintendo, on the other hand, will probably have to follow the normal curve, since their history of business practices suggest unnecessarily slow behavior in catching up with the present, and the only way for the console to "improve" is with another accessory. The Natal and Sony's 3D and wands have been shown to be fully functional with their current technology.
