Exactly eight days ago, on the fourteenth of January 2015, my brother and I ordered our new 3DS Majoras Mask edition systems from BestBuy, and last night I got a notification email saying that one of the systems has been canceled!
I called BestBuy customer service today, and as it turns out, the reason for the canceled order, was because we paid with the same card. Even though we ordered our systems at different times, and the order numbers are unique, and they are addressed to two separate people, they weren't able to help me because of their ridiculous policy!
The worst part is... They NEVER said that there was a limit one per credit card number policy! Believe me, we looked for one when we were checking out.
Customer service said that the only way I even have a chance of getting one is if ther happens to be an extra one In stores on release day, or if I sit at my computer and refresh the order page for the off chance that some come back in stock.
Never again will I buy ANYTHING from BestBuy, EVER AGAIN!!
I realize that this was the only way to control scalpers, but I think its a bit obvious that our order was genuine. Very disappointing to say the absolute least.
But now someone else has the chance to get one, maybe.
TBH I could give a monkey's patoot about someone else's chances. I'm the one who ordered the system!
Also, they're only shipping out enough devices to meet the preorder requirements, plus possibly a very few extra for store stock.
Don't blame Best Buy because of scalpers. Blame Nintendo for limiting so many things
Look, the one of the best parts about owning a "Limited Edition" is knowing that you own something that is Rare and Valuable! If "Limited Editions" weren't "Limited" then they wouldn't be special!
And also, I am going to blame BestBuy, because it was THEIR mistake, and I've had issues regarding preoreders with them in the past. I'm willing to bet that NOBODY who ordered their systems from GameStop had their orders canceled! Because GameStop (unlike BestBuy) actually knows what they're doing.
There again I guess scalpers have those cards where you can generate a unique number per transaction (Or if they don't they will soon).
Oh don't get me wrong, I think its a great policy! However if there is no warning of this policy anywhere on the website, and they don't notify us that our order has been canceled until a freakin' week later, then it becomes a problem.
I'm all for controlling scalpers, but I think BestBuy needs to figure out a better way of doing that, that doesn't involve canceling orders of hardcore, excited fans.
All I can say is, I reallyhope that my local store gets a couple extra. My brother, being as generous and compassionate as he is, wants to give me the system that wasn't canceled. But I would really rather this whole situation was avoided.
All in the world it would've taken, is a simple little notification saying "limit one per credit card" or something near the checkout. But there was nothing! And when I called in the problem, they basically said "S-O-L! You made a double order!" When it was clearly their fault!
