I'm unaffected by the new price restructuring as I'm a streaming-only Netflix user.
In my initial post, It didn't appear that this price change affected me. Unfortunately, when I got home yesterday, my wife showed me an e-mail that she just received from Netflix. It stated that our $16 plan which allows 2 movies at a time and unlimitted streaming, has actually increased to $20. In light of this, it appears that my Netflix bill just went up 4 bucks. Overall, it's no biggie, but a 25% price hike is a bit of an eyebrow raiser. Especially considering that they just had a 7% price increase a few months ago.
edit: my point for including the picture is that the future pricing on my current plan does not seem to agree with what is pictured.
I'm pissed and warning people who don't pay attention myself. Odd coincidence a month ago I switched to streaming online (wife never returned discs, ended up paying for like 3 discs a month or two. >:
Now I have no intent to put it back as she wanted 1, but not that that cost, we're RedBox'n it at this rate. Streaming I'll keep for now, but if that starts going up they can suck it as they don't add new movies anymore much at all.

I totally forgot about Redbox guess if I really want a DVD I will have to go that route.

Well I just read that they are raising the price because they want to just do streaming but people don't really want to stop getting the dvd's. But the dvd's cost way more to send out then streaming. So they had to raise prices. They also raised them because of licenses and how these t.v. and movie companies want more from them. So it's a lot of reasons but I would recomend you get either streaming or dvd's if you can't afford both.

Yeah I did the math with my moms account as well and came out to the same conclusion Magi. She has 2 DVDs out and streaming for about 16 dollars right now if she stays at the two discs plan it will go up about 4 dollars if she drops down to the one disc and streaming plan it will be $15.98 like she pays now.
Now me on the other hand I have the one disc with streaming plan for $9.99 month if I want to keep it the price will go up to $15.98 nearly a six dollar hike. That is who is getting screwed with the new plan people like me. Now I have to chose do I want streaming or Discs cause I cant afford both. I decide I will just with streaming and if there is a movie I want to see bad enough that Netflix doesnt have on streaming than I guess I can run down to the nearest Redbox. IMO this is going to hurt Netflix.
Well I cant help but wonder if this Nielsen survey is part of the reason for the price change. I guess in a recent survey they found out that half of streaming users stream through their video game consoles. The Wii being the top one, followed by the PS3 and the Xbox. Before you ask this survey was done in March before the 3DS got Netflix.
So what is all your reaction to Netflix's price change? Personally after seeing the video and getting an email from them I thought well if they would have put it this way a month ago I maybe wouldnt have been so upset. But I cant help but feel that the video and letter was a PR thing to try and hope to get some of the one million subscribers they lost due to this deal.

I went from paying $10 a month to $17. I still feel it is a very good value and feel people are making a big deal out of nothing.
Honestly now that they will be offering games to I think its a GREAT value. I mean Gamefly charges $16 a month and thats just games only no DVDs no streaming. I am considering going back to disc rentals now and just switch between movies and games. Especially since I dont have a game rental store in my town and had to go to Blockbuster Online for games, but I will gladly take Netflix over Blockbuster Online.

I actually wouldn't mind paying a little extra on my streaming only plan if that meant they would add more content on a regular basis. Especially tv shows, because they will add like one or two seasons and then won't add any of the others for ages. To me I still am getting a much better deal than cable. Cable you get a lot more content, but am paying a fortune and most of the stuff I still didn't watch anyway.

Hmmm I never saw that they only but one or two seasons on. I have Law and Order SVU, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Star Trek TNG and a few more tv shows and they have all the current season that are on DVD for streaming. I know if for example the season has yet to come out on DVD than it wont be available for streaming.

Doubling your prices with very little notice is lame. Netflix has already started to suffer from this. It was a bad move on their part. It would have been better if they had just dropped the whole dvd side of things and raised the price of streaming a little. Putting more of a focus on newer and better streaming content would have justified that move. As it stands, bad move Netflix.
@Waltzelf There is nothing wrong with a company trying to be profitable. There is something wrong however with the way Netflix is trying to be profitable. Say you go to your favorite coffee shop to get one of those coffees you were talking about, and all of a sudden, it's twice as much. You would buy it anyway in support of them making more money? That's stupid.
