Hello my name's Shawn and i've got a situation in my hands. I want to give my ex girlfriend a Valentine's Day gift to show her that I still care about her and maybe give us hope to be in a relationship again. I'm 22 years old, we broke up in August, we've remained in good terms. But I want to attract her back with a gift.

Here's my idea and please don't criticize too harshly, I'm sort of sensitive in talking about this lately:

I wanna give her a poem that i've aged the paper with coffee and burning the edges so it would look like ancient paper, I wrote a fantasy story about our first valentine's day together, but a little more folkorish of course. then i wrapped the note and put it in a glass bottle and close it. With that i'm thinking of also giving her a dvd about her favorite musical "Les Miserables" and her favorite chocolate all those 3 gifts in a non Valentine's Day themed bag and i'm gotta leave that gift at her door soo when she goes to work she'll see it when she opens the door.

All of that and i'm not going to put my name on anything but i'll leave a few hints on the poem that it was me.

I know the recommendation is to move on, but I wan't to give it this last shot and do it right and go out with a good memory at least. Soo any thoughts?

Depends on the girl, will she take any of that as creeper-ish?

If you really like her and think it could work then give it a shot.

Great idea. If she's into that sort of stuff then this idea should be golden to possibly persuade her. If it doesn't then you know where your place is.

Well I hope she is aware that you do those kinda of things. I mean if I found a strange bag on my doorstep I would more than likely pick it up and toss it out either that or call the police.

That's why I ask for suggestions, I don't wanna do stuff for the wrong intentions, nor do I want to look like a creep. I just want to surprise her with a well recieved gift.
Remember in my head I may not see the same things that everyone sees. Dumb rose colored glasses lol.

Ok, I really don't want you to take this as criticism, but my advice is not to do that. There are a lot of girls I know who would think it is downright creepy for a guy they broke up with to be doing ultra-romantic gifts on Valentine's Day.

That said. I don't know this girl, and I don't know you or how your relationship is with her. So here's my advice: think very carefully to yourself 'would she be creeped out, or flattered by this'

Act on your gut from there. If you're even slightly worried with how she will react to it, don't do it.

And as a disclaimer, though I know a lot of women, I am not a psychologist. There are one or two around this forum, from memory. Perhaps they will chime in because they would know best.

Maybe give the bag to her personally? I know it will be less of a surprise this way, but you won't have to worry about her throwing away the bag before even opening it- and since the bag will be non valentine's day themed, she will still be surprised when she opens it and she will know for sure that it is a gift from you.

The closest I got to letting a girl know that I like her was last year in a card I made that said "Happy (2 days late) Valentines Day! I think you're awesome" but she still got the message and understood what was really going on. But I have no idea what to get her for this year, I already got her snivy, plusle, and minun ( her 3 most favorite pokemon) plush toys on Christmas. XD

maybe take the girl out for dinner and ask her how she feels about going serious again. it'll be obvious that you've thought about it if you're asking her for her opinions.
if she wants to carry on as before, fine, give her your poem. if not, it's better to remain as friends than hating each other.

I think its impossible for anyone to give relationship/dating advice since no two relationships are the same. The best person to know how she would respond to that gift would be you, and only you can make the decision of whether or not to do it. Just try to think of how she'd feel about an ex doing what you plan and take that into account. If its meant to be it'll happen if not its not the end of the world. Good luck.

Well it's not the first time i've given her a gift like this, One day she was really sad about something(not me related) and after work I bought a card from Walgreens and her favorite chocolate and wrote down a cute message to tell her that she is special and hope the card encourages her to get well soon. And put the card on her car's wipers.

She called me the morning after saying thank you and I could feel she was happy for it.

Now this gift has much more meaning and with the date im doing it and the whole gift and stuff, I just want the same reaction if not more. I have a couple of weeks to choose what to do and how. If she and I have lunch together before Valentine's Day I can feel my chances improving since even though we broke up when we hang out together we actually have a good time.

Give her the key to your house and write "12:00, Feb 14, my place" then you can do some romantic stuff. After she sees your thoughtful gifts she will probably want to cuddle with you and start the relationship again with a fiery passion.

Hello Shawn. If you don't ever want her to hate you or talk about you in a negative connotation, I would let her go. I can't tell you the number of girls IRL I know who can't stand their ex simply for the fact that they won't leave them alone and move on with their lives.

Hanging on to the past prevents growth and moving forward. I say don't do it. But you know the situation and your ex better than I do. I'm just letting you know how some girls I know IRL feel about this sorta thing.

Your best options are Smexi's genius or bezerker's wise words of wisdom.

Just another opinion to consider: I agree with what berzerker said. However, you said you are still friends so its a hard situation to figure out. I suppose just make sure you know what you are doing so that it doesn't come off wrong.

Yeah, bezerker has my idea in it. I'm rather cynical, but most I know would also agree it's best to find another girl.

Also, I consider Valentine's Day to be the most horsepoo holiday to ever exist (what, you have to dedicate love to ONE day?), and this could easily end up as a waste of cash and effort. The odds are pretty bad here.
