And then they left it at the forest. Because, who cares if someone else stals it?
Anyway, from this I get the feeling that discord will try something funny in the finale. Not necesary becoming the big bad again, but I predict he will play a big part.
Six Keys, six ponies... Makes sense. I do wonder where they are. And how they will be obtained. In random episodes scattered troughout the season, or the last two (or six/seven?) only time will tell. I do hope it wont be just six new elements because then what would be the point of losing them now...
Also, please use spoiler tags. NL just added those. Some people hate spoilers.

I had a heck of a time trying to add spoiler tags to my last post. I think I got it working by putting an empty line before and after the area to be spoiler-tagged.

A lot of these sure sound interesting, and a bit on the strange side.
@CorporalPegasus: Ah, Episode 6 must be the one in the commercial I glanced at! I'm looking forward to that one. Sounds rather off the wall, especially compared to everything else from the show!

Yes, that should be the one! It does sound like soething that could turn out very cool, if done right!
First season I'd say "Look Before You Sleep" was best for the great character interactions and humour. Worst was "The Shower Stoppers", I never cared for that trio in season one and they just drove me nuts with their stage performance/song.
Second season I'd put "The Return of Harmony Part I" as best just because of how awesome Discord was. "The Cutie Pox" as worst, I just can't stand watching theft and lying like that.
Third season.... ugh, the amount I don't like here, basically I don't like the entire season, all 13 of them were okay, to bad, sometimes just for something small to me. To pick the best is as hard as the worst. For the best I'll go with out of my toss up of "Apple Family Reunion" and "Magic Duel". I'll say "Apple Family Reunion" just because Applejack being out of sync by misunderstanding the values of their family get together when she ran it for the first time over one of my most despised characters returning, yes I don't like Trixie in the least. Worst I think I'll go with "Magical Mystery Cure", yes I'm one against the idea of having Twilight as an Alicorn and yes I despise musicals but going beyond that, this is an episode that needed two or three to look properly at what the spell actually did to the town and ponies, to see who noticed this as odd, etc. Instead we sing into and out of the entire thing, rushing through what is technically and should be a very deep and interesting piece of plot. I'd likely go as far as calling this the worst of all the episodes, yes even worse than the Spike one.(I still think that whole it is a 3 part episode the worst excuse as why it seemed as it did)
Best pony is Twilight of course. I love the humour played with her and how she uses her mind and logic first and for most.... normally, that insanity just makes her better.
I watched, I think I need to mull over the new episodes and watch them again without being designed to freeze on a few images to prevent it from being an actual upload or at least that's why I assume they were there.

@Aqueous: It was interesting to read your thoughts, there, because I don't think I've yet seen an episode I disliked at all... I'd say I've enjoyed each and every episode I've seen equally. Of course, I do not consider myself a "hardcore" fan, either; so there's that.
The first three episodes this season have been great. I couldn't resist watching Castlemania once it had leaked. I'm really glad the season premiere didn't follow the familiar pattern of introducing a new enemy only to defeat it the following episode. While this premiere may not have been as thrilling as some of the others, it is setting up a season long story arc and was quite enjoyable in its own right. Plus, that flashback battle between Celestia and Nightmare Moon was totally epic! I have very high hopes for this season.
As for favorite/least favorite episodes...
Season One: Favorite: The Best Night Ever (At the Gala is one of the best songs of the season and hilarious from start to finish) Least Favorite: Owl's Well That Ends Well (The episode that began the reign of terror that are Spike episodes. Spike obsessing over Twilight's pet owl for 22-some minutes? No thanks.)
Season Two: Favorite: (Tie) Sisterhooves Social (Perfectly paced episode, with a very touching and relevant moral. I guess I connect with it because it reminds me of my relationship with my own younger sibling, and never to take him for granted. Also, it's the best Rarity episode in the entire series)
A Canterlot Wedding (Epic, epic, epic. Also contains one of the show's best songs (This Day Aria). Only problem with it is that the resolution to the problem is... meh. It's not enough to ruin what almost feels like a Disney movie, though) Least Favorite: Dragon Quest (What a stinker. Another Spike episode, naturally. Crackle the dragon and Rarity's great one-liner near the end are the only redeeming things about this episode)
Season Three Favorite: Sleepless in Ponyville (I think this is the favorite season three episode of almost everyone I know who watches the show. There's a reason for that: it is perfectly paced, has a beautiful moral that is relevant to almost everyone, and is, in general, one of the most touching episodes in the entire series) Least Favorite: Spike at Your Service (Ugh.)
Ok, time to give my thoughts on the new episode, I bet spoiler tags are not necessary anymore so a little warning should be enough.
Spoilers for Princess Twilight Sparkle one and two ahead.
First and foremost, I did like the episodes, A LOT; I think they were funny, they were interesting and most importantly they left me with a smile on my face. Twilight learning to fly, Celestia and Twilight bonding, some nice world building, Day and Night at the same time! Discord singing Winter Wrap Up~ (trololol), and that little scream when Celestia gets attacked that was just oh so perfect I just love it (and I know what you guys where thinking there when the tenta- vine showed, you pervs ).
The idea that Twilight's road to really being a princess hasn't ended is relieving, and so is how all the characters are growing and changing because of this transformation, as they should. The change of the status quo, with no elements there to save the day anymore, is brilliant and bold. The use of Discord as a "chaotic neutral" character is anything but genius.
That said, the episodes weren't perfect. What troubled me is that they tried pandering the fandom too much. For example: I did enjoy the flashbacks about Celestia and Luna's past A LOT, but I really think most of them where unnecessary, and they just cramped them in to dazzled the fans. I would have preferred a longer, better buildup to the part where Twilight's friends decide she should go home for being a princess now, instead, because that came too much out of the blue and felt really wonky.
Same with Discord; I loved the spirit of chaos A LOT, it was magnificent in these episodes, but I don't want him and his chaos to take too much screen time over important story points. In other words I felt there was an imbalance in some parts, too much spectacle, too little story, and since they had been able to keep balance in worst two partners, like "The Crystal Empire" I just know that they can do better.
Also, what's with that scene with Rarity and Sweetie's magic going high wired, I mean, why did the evil plants never do it again?
Every single two parter of this show has felt rushed, no exceptions, and minor plotholes are a necessity of a 22 min show for kids, so as usual I will forgive those things. DHX is still doing an excellent job, and I admit I'm really just nitpicking here.
With the animation, effects and lighting being the best ever, perfect voice acting, and above average script, these episodes show me that MLP:FiM is as strong as ever, and my critique doesn't change that. I can only hope this episode is just it's own thing and the rest of the season doesn't succumb to the "spectacle creep".
Btw, did you guys notice Discord in the new opening?
End Spoilers.
Oh you are doing a Favorite, Less favorite episode recount uh?
Well that is easy.
Feeling Pinkie Keen is the best episode ever. Twilight gets hurt and Pinkie gets super powers, what can be better than that? .
From a Technical standpoint, I think the best episode of season one is The Best Night Ever. The pacing of several story arcs is perfect and we see the best art and animation to that point. Crowds look better. Awesome song.
I do not dislike any episode of season one... Mmm Call of the Cutie must be my less favorite though, note I still love it.
Lesson Zero is the best episode ever... that sounds familiar... shrugs Twilight gets crazy, the town fights over a doll and Celestia gets mad. Now that is drama. I also think is the best Technically speaking, the pacing is amazing, and all mane six have a little something to offer, just brilliant. The expresions and animation were the best that far.
I do not dislike any episode of season two... Mmm Sisterhooves Social is my less favorite, I still love it, but it has no best pony.
Magic Duel is my favorite episode of Season 3, it's just a love letter to bronies and made Trixie grew on me a lot (add a few fanfics and now she is my number 3 favorite pony surpassing Luna, yes THAT Luna ).
The superior episode Technically speaking is Wonderbolts Academy, I consider it the best paced episode of them all. Lighting Dust is a great counterpoint to RD, and the we'd never seen a group of BG ponies with so much personality. Brilliant episode.
My most hated episode (only hated episode actually) of MLP:FiM is Spike at Your Service. Plotholes are a given in this kinds of shows, the rule of fun is a must if it's used subtly, but what you can't do in a show that is character driven is suddenly go against everything a character is, just for the luls, it was offending. Spike is a good cook, a good helper, and sometimes even a voice of reason. He is not perfect, but he is not a moron. What affects this episode the most is that it could have worked perfectly fine with Rarity instead of AJ. Even if you leave AJ, there were tons of stuff that Spike could have done wrong in a farm that would seem logical, all missed opportunities. Worst episode of MLP aaaand worst iteration of the trope ever.
Btw, did you guys notice Discord in the new opening?
The opening was trimmed out of Ep1+2 on the video I saw on YT. Browsing online, I thought that maybe someone just photoshopped him in, but when I began watching Ep3 (which I stopped after the opening because I didn't have the time), I did see him. I wonder how many more episodes he'll be in.

I think the verdict here is unanimous; the season 4 opener was amazing! Though I do agree with @TC in regards to how they feel slightly rushed at times, but for a show like ML, I'm not gonna rage over every little detail concerning plot (for a show like Doctor Who though...).
As for my favorite episodes, I'd have to say (in no particular order and excluding season 4):
Magical Mystery Cure (shut up, I liked this one)
Sleepless in Ponyville (good humor and awesome character bonding between Scoots and RD)
Ponyville Confidential (apart from being meme fodder, I thought it was a good lesson for the younger characters to learn)
A Canterlot Wedding Part 2 (to be fair, I saw that twist coming, but I just really like how they handled it)
Too Many Pinkie Pies (it's always nice to see Pinkie's action actually reflect some semblance of consequence, which in turn, makes her somewhat rational I think)
@GuardianKing: Well, thanks for giving that to me, lol. I said I'd watch it tomorrow 'cause I really don't have time right now, lol. But thanks for finding it for me, now I don't have to go looking!
