Yup...spiders. Small ones I can probably deal with, but those big ones I just hate. Especially when they get in the house and on the ceiling...just, sitting there. >_>
Also hate the webs they built in the middle of the walkways, and they sometimes look like they're floating there. Seriously, I get nightmares constantly about running into thousands of webs swarming with spiders. T_T

From definitions I am finding, a bug is "a small insect".
If you click on any of the dictionaries on the page you linked, you'll see that I am correct. In nearly every dictionary the first definition will read "an insect or other creeping or crawling invertebrate (as a spider or centipede)" or something similar.

Stimulating argument, by the way.
You gotta give him credit for that hyperlink though. 'Aint it a beauty.
I once read that you are always within eight feet of a spider.
And I read that on the Internet, so it's probably true.

I actually flat out hate most insects. Spiders, bees, hornets. You know. But most of all, butterflies. Make fun of me all you want, but if you just look at them, you'll see why I hate them. Past the wings, they are just ugly beasts to look at. My fear mostly started when I was about 10. We were at a butterfly garden at a zoo, I think the Omaha zoo (Sweet zoo, btw). Things were flying around in there, occasionally hitting my face, when about 10 butterflies landed on me and I couldn't shake them off. I freaked out and ran out the other side ("accidentally") killing those that didn't come off. I just don't understand why people like butterflies, they're like all the other creepy insects, but just with nicer wings.

I love spiders. They're so cute! I want a tarantula but they're illegal where I live.
Some spiders sit on a leaf and dangle a thread of silk down, then reel it in and eat whichever flying insects got stuck on it. How could you not love them? They go fishing!
But anyway, I'd have to say my biggest fear is brain-eating amoebas.

My point being bug is not a scientific word and, as such, does not have a concrete definition. Some interpret it strictly as insects while others define it more broadly. Not everyone considers a spider a bug. Doing a simple search on scientific sources would show you that, it's a mixed opinion. I won't post more links because my phone likes to make them overly complex, as someone seems to have noted, I'll simply allow you to search the topic more if you desire. I was just showing one example where it is definied as strictly an insect, which is what I was taught in school. There is no right or wrong here, as much as you'd like to be "right".

I agree with you about the butterfly thing. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say that they hate bugs but love butterflies.
Seriously, which is cuter:
@RudyDog: That reminds me of the butterfly from SpongeBob Squarepants. Everyone thought it was a cute thing until they got up close to it.
That's actually a fly, but I apologize if this gave you the creeps.
This. This thing right here ruined my childhood. I actually gave away a VHS I had because it had that episode on it. Though I would be fine watching it now, because now I love arthropods for some reason.
Has anyone seen an infected insect from the cordyceps fungus? I was obsessed with the mass amount of information I researched online and even had dreams about it. Worst thing to even bring up in a conversation with friends...

That actually wasn't your point. You called someone out for refering to spiders as "bugs"...and now you're saying "well, bugs can be a lot of different things!"
