I've never cried at any form of media. The closest I ever came was the anime Claymore (slightly off-topic).
In the span of an episode or two, Teresa goes from being the number one of a group of cold-hearted killers bound by morally questionable laws to a caring, motherly character. The transition doesn't feel forced but perfectly natural. Teresa harshly abuses Clare to make her stop following her for quite some time but Clare is so desperate and damaged as a human being that she can't leave the side of the only person to demonstrate some kind of care for her (and someone experiencing a loneliness similar to hers). Eventually, Teresa kills a human in order to save Clare's life, which is a crime punishable by death amongst Claymores. She incapacitates her former allies in a legitimately epic brawl, pushing her immediate successor to the limit.
...then in a span of about two seconds, she goes from being the ultimate sympathetic character to a decapitated, blood-spewing corpse. No sappy final words. No campy montage of the good times. Just her lifeless head, the traumatic expression of her only friend, and the mockery of the monster that took Teresa's life. I'd never seen anything quite like it. It was brain-dead obvious that Teresa had to die beforehand yet that didn't remotely soften the impact when she finally went.
It's not even my among favourite anime and I felt it went it had wasted potential, but that one flashback scene made me 100% emotionally invested for the rest of the series. Nothing else pulled that off, let alone so quickly.
Anyone who can watch My Life as a Dog without crying has to be completely heartless. Seriously, drink a glass of water before you watch it so you don't get dehydrated.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
