i actually wanted to play nintendogs near her just to see, but i can't find my copy of the game

my brother is actually the most affected by this, for some reason.

She still has a strong prey drive against our dachshund too

@abgar it's true. we had a class hamster, and she ate one of her babies. I've never been told the story, so I don't know for sure, but I think our late dog may have eaten one of her puppies.

I had a hamster when i was a kid that did the same thing. The hamster (which we were told was male when we got him ... erm, her) had about a dozen babies one Sunday morning before we went to church, and by the time we got home there were only four left.

None of this is uncommon.

Unfortunate, perhaps, but not uncommon. Cats, Rabbits, Mice - they all do it.

Uncommon, no, but it can be minimized or prevented in certain conditions. Not all the time though. You may consider keeping the pups in a separate room for a while if you think shoe is causing some of the problems. Then you just have to keep shoe out, but don`t forget that scary dog still needs in.

A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.

Shoe causes nothing. But when candy sees her she shases after her, often making her own puppies cry.

... Well, sometimes Shoe seems to enjoy taunting her, but she is usually afraid of her.

By the way, Candy actually bit me a few minutes ago when i tried to distract her so my mom could clean her nest a little. She seemed regretful after she saw it was me, though.

Not only is it perfectly "normal" for a mom to eat a "defective" member of the litter, but it is also a way that nature allows the recycling of energy. In the wild, where every bit of energy (food) counts, you have to make due with what you have. Simply removing the diseased/sick/injured animal from the area so that it's usually inevitable death does not invite disease, insects, etc. isn't enough to assist in the whole perpetuation-of-the-species thing.
