In 1999, Star Wars Episode I came out, introducing a whole new generation to the Star Wars Saga. It also caused quite an uproar with its "scientific" explanation of the way in which The Force works. I've never found this to be a big deal, but I don't know if I'm in the minority here. Did anyone here get pissed about the way they apparently "trivialized" the mysticism of The Force?
Yeah completely. For me it was the idea that the Force is something you're born with the ability to use, rather than something that anyone can learn with spirit and dedication. It was very disheartening as a nine year old to find out that I might never be able to become a Jedi simply because of a low midichlorian count.
Uh that was 1999 when it came out. I was at the first showing. I'm one of the few who didn't hate Jar Jar. Off topic I know but just had to defend the poor guy.

I had written 1999, but I changed it, because I thought I remembered it being 1998, (but I think that was because I was so excited when I found out about it in 1998). And I thought Jar Jar was cool. I don't know why so many people hated him
Okay didn't mean to correct you. I just thought I'd make it clear. the year before it came out I was obsessing over it. I must have watched the trailers 50 times or more and bought just about every thing Episode 1 related. action figures, T shirts, puzzles, model kits etc. I still have that poster of little Anakin's shadow appearing as Darth Vader in the sand. I was acting like such a nerd about it.

Star Wars should have ended with episode III (or at least continued from the end of one of the trilogies). Instead they decided to continue beating the dead horse that was the Clone Wars. >: (

Hence the reason why I don't watch it.

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
The entire new trilogy is trash. I only care about Ep. 5, really.
Love is in the air.

Speaking of Empire Strikes Back, there is an interesting article about how that script came about, detailing some surprising trivia and some neat insights into script writing.
Apparently, Darth Vader originally was supposed to have a castle?
It doesn't bother me at all - but then I was kind of new to Star Wars when Episode 1 came out. The first time I ever saw them was the Special Editions - oh and I also grew up in the 80's! Deprived, I know, I hear it a lot.
Seeing all six episodes relatively close together and an older age, I can safely say I don't see either trilogy as being any better than the other. I mean I'd say Episode 3 is my second favourite with my first being Empire - however it's just one great saga and I just enjoy it for what it is.
I thought it was totally stupid. It ruined the whole sense of mystery and mysticism of the Jedi nature, and basically boiled it down to having a rare blood type or something. Bloody ridiculous. Fortunately though I have erased all memory of the prequels, barring the Pod race scene and the last 25mins of Episode III.I don't want those **** films sullying my memories of one of my favourite childhood films. Oh and Jar Jar should do everybody a favour and go play on the motorway
