I was browsing a site and came across a website by Bruce Everiss - a former employee at Codemasters. Now he writes gaming related articles. Dated 24th September 2009: (http://www.bruceongames.com/2009/09/24/microsoft-to-buy-electronic-arts/)
In 2007, he claimed EA would be bought out, and 2 years later, News agency Reuters are (In Bruce's words) reporting rumours that Microsoft may be EA's new owners. (http://www.reuters.com/article/innovationNewsTechMediaTelco/idUSTRE58M3CV20090923)
However, as well as being a rumour, EA are denying these claims, although Bruce (as someone very familiar with the gaming industry) believes that this must mean it's true. Here is a link to a site with EA dismissing these claims. (http://blog.seattlepi.com/microsoft/archives/180058.asp?from=blog_last3)
If this was indeed true, it would likely mean EA were tied (like Rare) to Microsoft, and that'd probably be the end of the FIFA* franchise on the Sony and Nintendo consoles. Would any of you readers mind a world without EA games (providing you don't own an Xbox or a Microsoft PC)?
as well as MySims, Madden and various other franchises
That would be terrible if EA Sports is boughten out by Microsoft. They still have to prove to us Wii owners that they can show the same amount of efforts as they do on the HD console.
I would be deeply affected. Why don't they buy Activision instead? They deserve it for trying to raise the price of video games in retails.
That would suck. I really like the need 4 speed and their sports games. It would suck badly without EA games on a sony or nintendo console. (which are the only consoles that Im interested in.)
If - big IF, mind you - this happens, I doubt you'd see an embargo of MS-EA games on other systems. Microsoft likes money as much as the next guy, and EA games'll sell on other systems, particularly the PS3. You might see advanced release on the Xbox and PC platforms, sure... but an outright cancellation of sales on other systems? Doubtful.
Microsoft has already stated it has no plans to acquire EA and that its not part of the goals they have. They did state they have a good partnership. They may have talked about it but as of now there is no plans of aquisition. The link below is at Game Informer's web site.

Read the thread and you'll see a different point of view.I'll quote it: "When pressed on whether the two companies had held any talks at all, Spencer declined comment. Uh-oh, you know what happens when someone in the video game industry declines comment…"
And like what was said in the first post (the first link), denial of a buy out usually means the opposite. Bruce Everiss (the blogger in the first link of my opening post) said EA are in dire straits (#"The fact is that EA would be very cheap to buy, because they have been making big losses for some time whilst the industry around them booms. These losses are because something is wrong within EA, fix that and you have bought a bargain."#), though Microsoft may not be the ones to buy EA when the time comes.

Perhaps. It would depend on how much business Microsoft - or indeed any potential buyer could make by gaining EA exclusivity. Naturally, if EA games on XBOX means vastly increased console sales, Microsoft might want to keep hold of the titles for themselves.
Not surprised Microsoft is trying to buy out all the 3rd party developers in order to eliminate competition from Nintendo an Sony .... hasn't Microsoft been sued for this sort of thing in the past
