Believe it or not; in the early 40's to 50's. cartoons were also enjoyed by adults, this is why they would have the cartoons smoke and drink in it, while they were being silly, and that was funny back then.
Today, those things are taboo to be shown to children, but I think today cartoons are a bit more sexual orientated.

Yup. I'm a big fan of watching the really old cartoons and they were quite violent! :O With that said, this is really not that surprising to me :(
