And perhaps there was some correlation to what Mickey was experiencing, and what Walt himself was experiencing. Not for the same reasons, but perhaps Walt was depressed with his life at the point.

Believe it or not; in the early 40's to 50's. cartoons were also enjoyed by adults, this is why they would have the cartoons smoke and drink in it, while they were being silly, and that was funny back then. Today, those things are taboo to be shown to children, but I think today cartoons are a bit more sexual orientated.
