I could swear we had a thread like this already, but....maybe I'm thinking of one from 2015, and got it confused with the Wii U Eulogy thread...

...aaaanyways, title says all, what are some memories you have about a game that's really close to your heart?

I'll start:

  • Sonic Adventure 2: Battle - The first stage and cutscenes of Light and Dark modes
  • Guilty Gear XX # Reload, Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers, King of Fighters '94, King of Fighters 2001, Vampire Savior - The Win Poses of I-no, Cammy, Mai Shiranui, Angel, and Felicia, repectively. :3
  • King of Fighters '98 - The first time I pulled off a "Powah Geeza!"
  • Metal Gear Solid - The battle with Grey Fox (most epic battle ever)
  • Breath of Fire II - The intro sequence, which was the first time I had ever been really drawn into the story of an RPG.
  • Shining Force - The first time I met a Yogurt...along with all the other completely random events, like when that kid tipped a cow.
  • Pikmin - The first time I led a charge of red Pikmin against one of the Big Red Beetle dog things.
  • Okami, Chibi-Robo - The first time I made one of the characters happy.
  • Kingdom Hearts - The beginning where you're chased by an endless torrent of bad guys, and I beat down every one that dared show their face.
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - When I beat Agnihm, only to realize it wasn't the end of the Game.
  • Chrono Trigger - When Chrono Died
  • Mega Man 2 - The first time I beat a boss and stole the enemy's power
  • Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime - My First Tank battle!
  • Resident Evil - The first time I killed a Zombie
  • Halo: Combat Evolved - The first time I Stickied an enemy in a closed off area and got him to blow up his buddies. >:3
  • Pokemon Blue - The first time I caught a Pokemon, The first time I beat an Onix with a Charmander, the first time my pokemon evolved...the list goes on.
  • Linkle Liver Story - The main girl's cuteness, and the first time I learned how to dash (and immediately tripped and fell on my face ).
  • Super Mario Bros. - The first time I got a star and ran all the way to the goal
  • Persona 2: Innocent Sin - The first time I used "seduce" during a conversation with a demon.
  • Devil May Cry 3 - The intro scene, where I found myself saying "too bad you can't use those moves in game". Then I started playing, and realized...I COULD! XD

...I may add a few more later, I copied and pasted this from an old doc file I found while rummaging through my computer (as the excessive amount of smiley's should no doubt prove), which I thought was too good to not post somewhere. Though, there are so many "firsts" here that I almost made that the theme of the thread.

Not gonna post as many...

Monster Hunter Tri: Meeting Deviljho for the first time - As a newcomer to the series with Tri being the first game...this put chills down my spine the moment he appeared and his theme took over.

Monster Hunter 4U: Gogmazios battle - A more recent one, although it's just "another giant Elder" hunt...But when he went into his second phase and went berserk with his heat beam, I was like... O_O Holy Crap, lol

Metroid Prime 2: This was a small moment, but I remember it because looking back it was pretty funny. I was in the Torvus Bog, just doing...er....Metroid stuff? I went to a door and shot it, this was on the GCN so it took a bit for the game to load the next room. I was just standing there right at the door, as I waited I decided to turn around....a Grenchler was RIGHT THERE...behind me....I jumped. xD

Wii: ...Not exactly game specific, but buying and playing the Wii for the first time was pretty memorable. Getting up super early to wait in a massive line at Toys-R-Us, managing to secure ourselves a ticket that guarantee us the system. Getting home and playing Twilight Princess for hours....(then Wii Sports with family)

If I think of anymore then I'll post later.

I'm gonna leave out certain games I've played and/or seen so much the whole game is memorable to me (and to not be the 1 billionth person to remind you of how dark and emotional Majora's Mask can be for example). And also "memorable" is so vague for me that I could go forever so...

-Beyond the more beloved and tragic scenes in Mother 3, the end of chapter 3 is so awesome. The story scenes in that game are so great just for the strong animation alone.

-Beating Prime 2 on Hard mode without 100% items. Still think it's the most impressive thing I've done in a game.

-Beating Super Mario Bros DX at a restaurant. Random memory, but I distinctly remember this.

-Staying up until way past when I should have in order to finish the final case of Ace Attorney Investigations

-Beating Mysterio in Spiderman 2

-Utterly failing at the first level of Super Mario 64 once I finally had a copy to myself

-Beating the boss rush in Shovel Knight on hard mode

-Whenever I find an awesome, beloved, older title unexpectedly at an arcade. Especially the TMNT games

-My co-op, all in one day playthroughs of Rayman Origins and later Rayman Legends

-the moment Rob Zombie suddenly appeared in Jet Set Radio

Non-binary, demiguy, making LPs, still alive

  • Playing my first Nintendo game (Kirby and the Amazing Mirror).
  • Playing my DS lite for the first time. Spent the whole playing it and I was amazed by the titles, touchscreen and battery life. Still my favorite portable to this day.
  • The first evidence I presented on the first Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. So satisfying, I was already sure i was gonna love the series.
  • The entirety of Metroid Fusion and Super Mario World.
  • Beating Sonic 3.
  • Beating the Ruin levels from Crash 2. (They were pretty hard to me when I was a kid).

Yeah, I didn't want to go with such a vague title (we've had threads just like this before, and I always get balled up because "memorable" could mean literally anything). I was thinking more along the lines of little moments you'll always treasure. The sort of thing you could absent-mindedly think about, and it'll automatically put a smile on your face...the sort of gaming moments that'll probably always stay close to your heart. I can't even begin to conjure up the words to describe that, in such a concise way that it could be used as a title. "Memorable" is the best I got.

  • Firing up the 3DS for the first time & seeing the 3D effect first hand. That was sooo awesome.
  • Fighting Sephoroth in Kingdom Hearts. I didn't know who he was, but everything was all serious & he was tough as nails. Also, I believe Ansem was the first long winded multi-stage boss I ever fought. Oh, and Utada Hikaru's Simple & Clean, which shall forever be on my playlist.
  • Fighting Julius in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. In this day and age everything about a game seems to be spoiled before it's release, so I was stunned to run into an optional boss I had no idea existed.
  • The Culex boss fight in Super Mario RPG, for all the Final Fantasy fanservice.
  • Discovering Sonic could go freakin' Super Sayain in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
  • All the crazy created superstar fights me & my friend would put on in the late era PS2 & early 360 WWE games (the Burger King, Ronald McDonald, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Vegeta, Sora, InuYasha, the Hulk, Peter Griffin, Ranma, Little Mac, Mario & Luigi, ourselves, and more).

I'll probably have more later.

  • Hacking my arm off in Dead Space Extraction
  • Finishing Hitman Blood Money on the hardest difficulty
  • My first adventure in Dwarf Fortress was definitely memorable, particularly as it mostly occurred out of ignorance. I fast travelled out of town and because I wasn't used to the interface, I got lost. Eventually I came across two lions by a river, so I attacked them, as you do. To start with I was mostly dealing scratches, but eventually my sword got lodged in one of the lions. Not knowing how to remove my sword, I resorted beating it with my shield. Even that was proving to be ineffectual and out of desperation to end their suffering I tried biting out their throats. Eventually both lions succumbed to blood loss and I decided that I wanted to cross the river. I didn't know how to carefully enter the water
so I decided to jump in. The water must have been shallow, because I impacted with something solid which stunned me. I was also set upon by alligators who mauled me into unconsciousness whereupon I drowned. I certainly learned a lot from my first adventure.
  • Another (short) Dwarf Fortress one: Playing fortress mode and my fort was attacked by a weregila (the first attack I'd ever encountered). My militia proceeded to hack off every limb, knock its teeth out and then spill its guts. Despite being under equipped they did this without taking a wound more serious than a bruise.
  • 18 medic-assisted kills as a heavy in one life in TF2. The joys of carnage.

The thrill I got when getting to the Pokemon League in X and Y was unparalleled. This immense building in 3D, the epic music in the background... (sure, the actual trainers were easy, but that didn't matter!).

I had a super fun time playing Nintendo Land with my friends recently as well. (I was a Toad, and I somehow caught Mario out of nowhere!)

Splatoon has so many memorable moments it would take forever to list them here!

Kirby Triple Deluxe has an excellent boss fight, that was one of the highlights of the game.

And of course, beating Ganon for the first time in OoT. It was also really cool seeing both timelines at the end (before they were separated forever).

Finally, all of the original Metroid Prime Trilogy is the Holy Grail of gaming.

(P.S. Yeah, I don't have any old games as I never owned a NES/SNES/N64. I'm catching up though!)

EDIT: Also, I had a ton of fun playing with all my friends on MK7 a few years ago; it would be awesome to do that again.

One of my favorite moments in Pokémon B2W2 was the fight between you and Ghetsis. The buildup was superbly done and the fight was great (and you were so close to the Pokémon League as well!)

I've played a few games over the years, but nowhere near as many as some, I'm sure. There's not many moments that stand out as memorable to me. The ones that spring to mind:

  • Probably the moment that recurs in my mind more than any other (and quoted in this thread from last year) - the driving test questions in Super Cars 2, specifically the one on the correct procedure for making a turn. Cracked me up completely at the time, and now comes to mind very often when driving.
  • Playing this level on Creepy Cave (Acorn Electron):
    Untitled
You enter the screen from the left and at the first ledge encountered there's a continuous dripping of acid drops (see the red drip in the image) that you had to avoid by timing your jump just right. As you can see in the picture, the drips only fall about twice the height of your character (Dirk Daring), and one drip immediately follows the last one as it splashes down. The dripping became hypnotizing - the longer you spent looking at it trying to guage it right, the more likely you were to mess it up. If I think about it I can still see those drips now, embedded on my eyeballs for eternity.
  • The sound design perfection of Speedball II. Everything from the opening intro music, to the ringing when you threw the ball round the whirlygig (what we called the score multiplier), the fanfare when you turned all the stars on, the slamming of the ball into the goal followed immediately by the cheer of the crowd, the siren when a player got injured, and of course, the legendary 'Ice-cream!'.
  • Making the trousers fall down in IK+
  • Armageddon in Populous.
  • First play of Grand Theft Auto 3 - what was then by far the best gaming realisation of an open-world that I'd encountered. I went up to an old woman and beat her to a pulp with a baseball bat. Over and over. I don't know if she'd had a go at me about anything or not, but she deserved it.
  • When I green-shelled the first place driver in Mario Kart 8 just yards from the finish so that I could take the win. There was some distance between the two of us and I only had one chance... and I nailed it. For a miniscule moment I felt like a gaming pro.

Some more:

  • Catching my first legendary in Pokémon Blue, Zapdos.
  • Battle mode in Super Mario Kart, getting a red shell to orbit the other player (for this to work, they have to be sitting still).
  • Completing Super Mario World, the first game I ever beat.
  • Opening the N64 & Wii on their respective Christmas mornings, super excited for both.

Off the top of my head:
Undertale: Toriel's speech at the end of the pacifist battle with her. Also, THAT PHOTOSHOP FLOWEY FIGHT!
JOURNEY: Watching helplessly as my avatar dies at the mountain base
TEKKEN 2: Fighting Devil for the first time.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2: Seeing the most wonderful question ever coded appear on my screen for the first time: "Do you want to play as Luke Skywalker?"
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening: Getting the Fire Rod and (literally) roasting everyone who got in my way.
Jet Set Radio: Discovering the looping areas in Benten-Cho and Kogane-Cho and destroying Jet Technique with them.
Half-Life: Getting attacked by a headcrab for the first time.

before you read: yes i love metal gear solid

first time with motion controlls (Wii): revelation! of course wii sports was the first game. i got another revelation when i first played tony hawk's downhill jam and steered with tilting the wiimote.

Wii discslot glowing blue: atfer my first night with the wii (i know that sounds weird) i walked out of my bedroom and my other room was glowing in a beautiful blue. it looked amazing!

Psycho Mantis (Metal Gear Solid): i was like 12 years old? a videogame character told me to lay down my controller on the ground. i did. the controller vibrated. i was shocked (can you find the pun;). later i changed the controller slot. mind blown.

Seeing Rex for the first time (Metal Gear Solid): you walk down a long hallway and the camera shifts towards the cieling. the further you go the more you see of that beast Rex and then at the end a cutscene rolls in and reveals the entire beast. the cameramovement is so important in this moment!

"The best has yet to come" (Metal Gear Solid): to this day i ALWAYS get goosebumps when i listen to this song. it reminds me that this one game changed my life. it made me see the world with different eyes. i really get angry when people laugh about videogames. too bad they will never experience what i have experienced.

Mission 43 (Metal Gear Solid 5): i will not spoil this. this was hands down the most amazing and breathtaking (literally) moment i ever experienced in gaming. words just can not describe how the game made me feel in that moment. i was speechless. i had to get my hands off the controller and stop for a minute. this was too much.

The day I purchased and first played my New Nintendo 3ds. NSMB2, MK7, and Yoshi's New Island all in 3D!

Playing Super Mario Galaxy and Super Paper Mario on the Wii all summer long. Great summer time games, imo.

Wii U HD games. I was in awe of the beautiful environments (NSMBu, LoZ Wind Waker).

Completing Never Alone on PS4 and Flower on PS3. Very calming and relaxing games. Star Sky on Wii U has the same effect for me. I play that every few weeks.

That I can remember...

  • Receiving my first console from my uncle, a PS2, alongside Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. That moment introduced me to gaming. I remember playing Jak and Daxter for hours on end. That moment changed my life.
  • Playing through the entirety of Mother 3 and beating the game. I knew from that moment that I'd found my new (and current) favorite game.
  • Playing through each of the Pokemon games. The Pokemon games, in my opinion, are some of the most fun games I've played. Beating a Nuzlocke challenge for the first time (Pokemon Alpha Sapphire) is especially one of my more memorable moments in gaming.
  • Messing around in games like Postal 2. This is a more recent moment of mine, but it's so fun to mess around in the world of Postal 2, beating up, shooting and lighting up random civilians. It's also fun to light cars on fire and watch the world of Postal 2 just blow up as a result.

@NokiUsernameHere With Mother 3, I wonder (and I'm not biased either way, just curious), how much you might like the game just because it's awesome (I've never played it, or any Mother games bar the first few minutes of 2), and how much it's down to the exclusivity of the game and it's iconic status.

Most of the reason I like Mother 3 is for reasons like the story, gameplay, soundtrack, etc. I will just say this, in a spoiler-free way, the story's like really freakin' good. The game follows Mother 2/Earthbound's footsteps in where the game is very quirky and weird, but also quite dark. This is what I love about both Mother 3 and Earthbound. I had just happened to have played Mother 3 first, though (making it the game that introduced me to the series in general), which makes the moments of Mother 3 much more memorable for me. As for gameplay, the overworld stuff, for the most part, not much has changed there from Earthbound and Mother 3. Something small but something that I appreciate is the fact that they finally added a running mechanic. I like that a lot. As for fights, I especially liked the little thing they added in the fights. You can now do combos along to the music. It's a little neat thing I liked about Mother 3's battle system. Even though most of the time if you suck at it (like I do), chances are you won't be getting those full combos anytime soon. Now, the music. Mother 3 has some of the best music I've heard in a video game. In my opinion, there's just so many memorable tracks. For awhile, I actually thought of it as my favorite OST. Then Undertale came along and changed that, but that's unrelated. Anyways, yeah. Apologize for the wall of text, but I hope that explains why I love the game well enough.
