Topic: Melee vs. Brawl: Which is really better?

I've had this on my mind ever since Brawl came out. I personnally think Brawl is better. My reasons?

1. Many gameplay aspects were improved. Doing air dodges is better in Brawl because you aren't helpless afterwards. Instantly grabbing an edge even if the animation for your recovery move isn't finished is great (no more cheap KOs caused by going too high and being open).
2. More characters and less "clones".
3. Cool stages. Not that Melee's weren't cool, but I didn't like fighting on most of them (Poke Floats, Big Blue, Yoshi's Island, Icicle Mountain, etc.) I've always preferred a fair stage with little to no gimmicks (Final Destination, Eldin Bridge, Delfino Plaza, Smashville, etc.)
4. A more involved 1 player game. It's not just "go through it with this character, then go through it with this character with minor alterations" anymore (even though I loved beating on Goombas and ReDeads and destroying bricks with a wide variety of moves). I loved Adventure mode in Melee, and pretty much every stage in the Subspace Emissary is like the side scrolling portions in Adventure.
5. So much content! Tons of things to do! Even more collectibles!
6. I like the way the game handles. Maybe it's because I'm used to the new physics or something, but I have a hard time playing Melee anymore. It just plays so much differently than Brawl. And I'm kind of torn on the "floaty" issue. I agree that the game feels "lighter" than Melee, but I think it's fine. All 3 SSB games feel a bit different when compared to each other. I think it's only right that it plays differently than Melee.
That's all I can think of right now, and there's probably more. I still like Melee, but I just think Brawl is much better. Which do you think is better and why?

Just the soundtrack alone makes me like Brawl more.

Brawl easily. Online, Better stages, Much more content and unlockables, More music. The game is a Nintendo fans dream! Of course I probably thought the same thing when Melee came out.

What the hell? The air dodging in Brawl was horrible. You basically just sink to the ground, where as in Melee your character had 'directional' air dodging AND you did a floating bad anime-like animation which was great because you could air dodge past enemies which totaly upped the skill. In Brawl, a tiny little quick animation happens and you SINK, and there's no directional dodging which sucks . The physics in brawl are also inferior, as everything seems a bit more floaty. Targets mode was lazy and horrible in Brawl as well, Sub Space was boring and mediocre and the Sticker Mode was a complete waste of time. Everything else though blows the crap out of Melee

I like the air dodge in Brawl because you can attack afterwards, not that the directional thing in Melee wasn't cool. And sinking? Never crossed my mind. I've never felt any sinking...oh well. I mentioned above about the floatiness, and I think it's fine. It's not inferior, the SSB games all play a little differently. It's just that, Melee was out for 7 YEARS before Brawl came along, and I think everyone got a little too used to it. Just because the physics are different doesn't mean it's bad. I still enjoyed Target Test even without the character specific challenges.

Brawl for pretty much the same reasons you like it more than Melee MegaStoneSmash91, except for air dodging since I barely used it in either games, so I can't really put an opinion on it.

EDIT:

@mecoy

So what if Melee was a bigger improvement over the prequel then Brawl? Brawl practically took Melee, and then improved and added upon it.

i know thats what i was saying melee was good and improved upon the original alot but brawl improved upon melee a little

Personally I find Brawl much better just because they added tons of new content.

I have never played Melee. Is it worth getting if you already have Brawl? I can understand getting Brawl if you have Melee as it adds to it but what are the benefits of trying Melee
I got SSB 64 on the vc because I wanted to see how the series started, not sure if I should make the leap to owning all 3?

Yes, and that's one of the things I like about Melee over Brawl (I also kinda miss Roy...).

I liked that Brawl wasn't riddled with clones, and that they removed the cheapness of Wavedashing. Plus they improved Ganondorf and Luigi.

Brawl. Now when i play melee, it feels like the gravity decides to power up when i'm recovering.

Dr. Mario = Biggest clone in the game. Same moves, a .2 second slower cape, and shoot pills rather than fire balls. However, they could have put him in as a extra costume in Brawl.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Brawl may have more content, but I prefer Melee's gameplay way more than Brawl's, and that is what matters the most to me.

I feel my mind dissolving around...

I love them both. Brawl more, but Melee lets me play as Master Hand.

I always enjoy reading these topics as they're always full of silly responses from people that don't know what they're talking about.

Tell me, what exactly is a wavedash, what benefit is gained from wavedashing, and how is it cheap?
Secondly, Ganon was quite good in Melee, in Brawl he is beyond terrible. Luigi improved a bit though.

There are lots of other silly comments, but yours is the one that contains the cliche "barlw is better since it lacks wavedashing, not that anyone that I know uses it, nor do I know what it really is" that is littered within so many arguments.

I never used wavedashing either. I saw no advantage to using it, and couldn't find a good time to use it in a match. But I hardly play Melee anymore 'cause Brawl is better.
