Topic: Mega Man 4, 5, and 6: Mixed opinions?

Can anyone show me proof that only Wind Man and Knight Man were fan submissions? I've never seen that anywhere. Also, I don't suppose anyone wants to point out exact reasons why all the Robot Masters from 6 are "badly designed", because I still don't get it.

Here you go

Wind Man, the Chinese agricultural bot, was designed by Michael Leader. Knight Man, the British medieval bot, was designed by Daniel Vallée. As these are the only two American-designed bosses in the entire franchise.

Heres the sight I got it from I just posted that part since there is some language in the post that might not be suited for some people. http://www.destructoid.com/why-mega-man-6-is-the-best-of-the-...

You can also see it in the end credits of Megaman 6 which can be seen here. You might have to forward it a bit for the credits.

And here is another article.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/106/1069184p4.html

And this is a copy of the page of Nintendo Power that showed some of the submissions.

http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15878

Hope that helps.

@Tasuki That Destructoid article was very entertaining. Anyone who thinks Mega Man 6 is terrible should read it! It may just change your opinion of this excellent game. I've seen the credits for 6 many times (but not on Youtube) and I guess I missed the 2 English names. Thanks for the proof.

But wait....hold on a second. Those articles only prove that Wind Man and Knight Man were created in North America! They don't indicate that the others weren't fan submissions from somewhere else. Even so, however, Capcom refined the designs and always makes a few changes to what a fan drew. Again, I feel no anger towards any of the designs, and I don't consider a single one to be bad.

Can any of you clarify on your music tastes? Did you dislike the way the music sounded on the NES, or do you just hate the tune itself? If it's because of the 8-bit sound, Mega Man 4 and 6 have some pretty nice Complete Works remixes that everyone should give a listen.

Np. Yeah I thought that article was entertaining but for reasons which you saw when you read it I couldnt put the whole article on Nintendo Life.

I remember the contest cause I entered a few cause I was a big Megaman fan even then. I remember in a latter issue of Nintendo Power that they showed the two people who came up with Windman and Knightman. Now I dont know if the other bosses where fan submitted or if Capcom employees came up with them but I am guessing they are Capcom employees cause they are Japanese names.

As far as the music goes I always enjoyed the Megaman tunes through the years but I always enjoyed Megaman 2 and 3 especially Sparkman's music. Damn now I am going to have to play the Anniversity collection this weekend after all this talk about Megaman games lol.

Oh and if we want to talk about weird robot masters what about Turboman in 7 I think it was. What I want to know is when did Dr. Wily work with Hasbro to make Transformers?

Flame man's track is the stand out in MM6 if you ask me. But really, 4-6's music isn't up to par with MM2's or MM9's. Those 2 games have their own dinstinct sound and it's pretty damn amazing. I also love MM1's Bomb man's track as well.

Flame Man's theme is my favorite in 6! Tomahawk Man's is also pretty good. Even though the music wasn't up to par with 2 or 3, it's still good. In 6, there are a couple really good tunes, but in no way should the music ever be considered bad. All the Robot Master themes in 6 really give you a nice feel with the level you're playing.

From the songs in Mega Man 1, I really like Cut Man's, Bomb Man's, and Fire Man's themes, as well as the Yellow Devil/Copy Robot/Wily Boss fight music.

Maybe the Japanese names could be fans as well, they did like holding the contest in Japan after all. Deciding to take a couple ideas from overseas was a good move though.

And about Turbo Man, I also want to know when Wily started reading X-Men comics and decided to build Slash Man, and also when he got into the Dracula movies and made Shade Man (either that or he ate a lot of Count Chocula cereal).

@WaveBoy What about Freeze Man? His tune is an excellent example of an "arctic" sound. Blizzard Man's is also a pretty nice snow theme. Maybe people are just overlooking the MM6 music. There are some great songs in 6, but not everyone knows or thinks that apparently.

But my least favorite music out of the first 6 games is probably Mega Man 5. Almost every song in the game seems to sound about the same to me, and other than Star Man's theme and the Dr. Wily stages, I don't find myself remembering them much. Mega Man 4, on the other hand, has some great songs. They are fairly easy to remember and just yesterday I found myself humming Dust Man's theme for no reason. Some people may not like the sound of the music in 4 (because of "tinny sound" or something) but you can't say no unless you listen to a couple remixes first, especially the Complete Works songs.

Yeah I am not sure about the rest of the robot masters in 6 they could have been fan submissions they couldnt have been. I just know that Windman and Knightman were as I have shown you. I know that for Megaman 5 Capcom held a fan submission contest for robot masters in Japan but now if any of the robot masters in 5 are fan submission that I dont know.

Plant man gets so much hate, he's such an underrated Robot Master His stage was probably one of the best in MM6 too, and his song was kind of catchy.

I don't get it either. His design is pretty cool, but I guess it's the fact that he attacks you with flower petals, and that making a plant robot is a little strange. He must have his uses as an industrial robot. Just look at Hornet Man, he takes care of a garden. Maybe Plant Man could help with that? Oh, and he reminds me of Axle the Red from Mega Man X5 whenever I look at him.

@Tasuki I'm pretty sure Crystal Man and Star Man were designed by fans (at least, I think they're fans). Yusuke Murata created Crystal Man for 5 and Dust Man for 4. Star Man was created by this guy's friend, not sure what his name is. I got this info from the Mega Man:Official Complete Works Art book.

AH ok I never was able to finish 4 or 5. I got pretty far in 5 on the NES but than I lost all my passwords for the game and this was before the internet so I couldnt look them up somewhere. As for 4 I didnt get really far cause of the difficulty of that one. So as a result I never saw the credits.

Very interesting stuff though.

Yeah, the bosses in the Zero series have some of the weirdest names ever. But since I haven't actually played the games, I can't say much about them. I can't say enough good things about the Classic series and X series, though. Those are both excellent (X6 is a good game....really).

I've beaten X1-X6 and I found X5 and X6 to be the duds, especially 6 because it was just down right frusturating at times, and it just felt rushed. The final Boss fight with Sigma was very cheap too. Yet I hear X7(especially) and X8 are the worst. I have no desire to play those 2

I disliked X6 at first, but it got a little better each time I played it. It gets pretty entertaining when you complete both the Armors and have a lot of parts to experiment with. It is very difficult, I won't lie, but the difficulty goes down significantly when you have tons of weapons and huge health bars. The music is good if you like Rock, but the only tune that really sticks out from all the others for me is the Stage Select music. God I love listening to that! The only thing I really dislike about the game now is the Nightmare enemies paired with rescuable Reploids. If the Nightmares weren't there and all you had to do was find and rescue the Reploids, it would be ok. I always enjoy the game more after there aren't anymore Reploids to rescue. I hate how the Nightmares can turn the Reploids evil and keep you from getting whatever part the Reploid had. It's very annoying.

I'll never play X7 or X8 either, although I've heard that X8 is much better than X7. From what I've seen of the games, X8 does look much better. However, they are both for PS2, and I never had much interest in it. If they were for the Gamecube though, I'd definantly give them a go.

Oh I have the games on the Megaman Anniversity Collection on Gamecube which I can play on my Wii, and what nice about having it on the GC is the memory cards no more losing passwords I just need to get the time to play them lol. The only ones I havent played yet is 9 & 10.

I am not sure if you are in North America or Europe Mega Stone but in N. A. was lucky to get the Anniversity Collection. I just feel bad for the Europeans cause they have to wait to get these games on VC. The only thing I dont like about the collection is how they switched the jump and shoot buttons.

As for the Megaman X series I never really liked them as much as the original Megaman series. I dont know why but they just didnt appeal to me.

@Tasuki Got the Anniversary Collection too! Proud to be an American! (and so on and so forth) The reversed buttons did annoy me at first, but I got used to it I guess. Jumping while shooting still feels odd though. I don't play it as much as I used to, ever since I got the original cartridges for 1-6 (man I love having those ). The only thing that I dislike about the Collection now (besides not including the Complete Works tunes in the Gamecube version ) is what they did to some of the music and the ending in MM7. The boss intro theme sounds terrible for 7 on the AC. It is nice to have a save feature, but remember that the saves and Passwords (excluding MM2 and 3) don't save Energy Tanks, which is a bummer.

I wasn't interested in the X series either, until I played Mega Man X for SNES. It's still the best game in the X series and it's worth a play for anyone who enjoys the Classic series. The Classic Blue Bomber is still my favorite, but the X series isn't too far behind.

I just have Megaman 2,3, and 4 on the original cartridges which I have had for years 2 & 3 I got for my 13th birthday back in 1991 and 4 I got the day it came out in N.A. I just dont have a NES anymore. I rented Megaman 5 years ago from a local video store and I never played 6 until I got the collection, in fact that was one reason I got the collection was so I could play 6.

I heard that they messed up the ending in 7 and the music was off for the collection version but I havent played the originals for sooooo long that it doesnt bother me perhaps if I was to play them on a NES than it would. As for the energy tank thing I never noticed that.

I played Megaman 4 for a bit today and I got pass Toadman, Brightman, Pharaohman and Ringman without too much problems. The normal enemies still take more hits than in other Megaman games or maybe thats me. I like the Toadman stage music.

Good to know you own the ones with some of the best music of the 6 NES games. I was born in 1991, so while everyone was playing Mega Man 4, I was laying in a crib sleeping! I wish I knew what it felt like to be a gamer back in the NES days.

The ending of MM7 usually has a nice Mode 7 image of Mega Man walking away from Wily's destroyed castle. In the Collection it was removed because it was apparently too difficult to emulate. I call it laziness. Other than that, the game appears to play the same as the original, but it doesn't sound as good. As for the NES games, it almost sounds like the music is being played through a really crappy speaker, but it's kind of hard to explain. The cartridges sound much better.

I did a MM4 run for all eight Robot Master levels recently without charging the Buster in any part of the level except for enemies that need to be destroyed with a charged shot (there's only one) and the Masters themselves. Most of the time the enemies take a fairly small number of hits to defeat, and some of them only take one or two shots. I found shooting most of them three or four times was about all it took. Some exceptions are obvious, like mini-bosses and larger enemies such as the Gumball Machine-like robots and the Totem Poles in Bright Man's stage. Some, however, seemed to be designed for the charged Mega Buster. There is a new type of Met in the game that spins in place like a Ballet dancer that takes exactly three normal shots to defeat. And how many normal shots is a charged shot worth? Three, of course! There appears to be only one enemy that requires a charged shot to defeat: the Skeleton Joe. Since this enemy only appears in two stages, there are actually few places were the charge shot is necessary. Special weapons always do a good amount of damage and are a good substitute for the Mega Buster. Try running around using the Pharaoh Shot, Drill Bomb, Ring Boomerang, Dust Crusher, or Dive Missle. It's pretty effective in most cases.

Toad Man's theme is just another example of Mega Man 4's excellent music. I especially love the Complete Works remix of it.

@Mega Stone Smash91: Yeah Megaman really didnt get popular until Megaman 2 was released. I still remember the issue of Nintendo Power that covered Megaman 2 was my very first issue of Nintendo Power. I must have read that thing till it fell apart.

My friend actually introduced me to Megaman 2 over at his house in the Summer of 91, and we played that game for hours trying to figure out which level to go to first and than dieing over and over and over lol. By the end of summer we were able to finally beat that game lol. A few months later my birthday came up and I got both Megaman 2 and Megaman 3 back when they costed $40-$50.

I have always enjoyed the series with Megaman 2 and 3 being my top favorites but I have enjoyed all of them. I didnt so much 7 and 8 and I still have yet to play 9 & 10. To this day I think the first six have some of the best music and graphics of any NES game.

Oh and being a gamer back in the NES days was pretty much the same now.
