Impossible to say, really. Mario really appeals to your child-like sense of creativity and wonder, while Zelda appeals to your child-like joy of discovery.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
I do like both, but Mario to me is more of a pick up and play for an hour or two.
I love Zelda because there's so much to do! You have Hyrule Field to explore, dungeons to complete, bosses to defeat, and a massive game to beat too! Plus an amazing arsenal of weaponry at your disposal.
Mario is good for a few hours. But Zelda keeps me glued for weeks!
And playing as Link is so much fun! Sure the story is always the same more or less, but you can't beat a classic!

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Impossible to say, really. Mario really appeals to your child-like sense of creativity and wonder, while Zelda appeals to your child-like joy of discovery.
Super Mario Bros. < Legend of Zelda Super Mario Bros. 3 > Adventures of Link Super Mario World < Link to the Past Mario 64 < Ocarina of Time Sunshine < Wind Waker Galaxy > Twilight Princess Galaxy 2 ??? Skyward Sword Bonus point: Majora's Mask > Super Mario Bros. 2
Winner: The Legend of Zelda
Currently Playing:
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
MLB 11 The Show
Hitman: Absolution
Zelda 1 - 100%, no codebook/gamefaqs, (not 2nd quest) Mario 1 - Screw you last level
NES - Zelda Wins
SNES - Hold your horses, I'll get there eventually
Zelda OoT - 100%, used codebook the first time, but not for subsequent times with multiple year breaks, game basically memorized. Mario 64 - 100%, no codebook, completed once or twice. Zelda Majoras' Mask - Time limit too frustrating as middle schooler (high schooler?)
N64 - Slight edge to Zelda
GCN Wind Waker - Sailing is boring. At least Zelda had some spunk. Sunshine - Didn't play, stupidly thought FLUDD was stupid; want to go back to it now.
GCN - Zelda, because of OoT/MQ bonus disk.
Wii TP - 100% on GCN, now have Wii copy. SMG - Beaten, not 100% yet. Not really a fair comparison, seeing as I wasn't working when I played TP, so I could play for 8 hour long stretches.
GCN/Wii - Slight edge to Mario, as of now. Totally got into TP but a bit too formulaic.
DS NSMB - Holy crap! A 2D Mario game I can actually beat. PH - Sailing vastly improved over WW. Side characters had actual personalities. Almost 100% except for a few ship parts. Too easy though.
DS - Mario, because too easy is good for Mario (if 2D). Though, not sure if I'll ever 100% it.
Sooooooo~ I'll go with Sonic the Hedgehog up until Sonic Adventure 2.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
I'm gonna have to say Zelda, since Ocarina of Time was the greatest gaming experience i ever had. Mario is great, but somehow i still always wait my next trip to Hyrule with more enthusiasm.
And taking Metroid along, this is how equally these games winned in my books: NES: Mario (SMB 3) SNES: All three. It's impossible to say which is best, Super Metroid, SMW or Zelda ALTTP. N64: Zelda (OOT) GC: Metroid (Metroid Prime) Wii: Mario (SMG)
