(Before I begin, I'd like to explain why I'm doing this. It's because I'm bored, and I like writing stories. Also, it's because someone made a comment about Mario Kart potentially having a storyline to go with it. I plan to do this in segments, and I'm definitely making it up as I go. I do have a general direction, but the details will be made up on the spot. As for why it's here, well... I don't really know where else to put it. XD

As far as comments go, I'll enjoy reading any positive or constructively negative feedback. I'd also love to hear ideas about some future details or where the story might go from where it leaves off. If this gets popular enough, I may even feature this in my siggy! XD I'm not getting my hopes up, though. This is for my entertainment and hopefully yours! Enjoy~)

MK: Origins

It was a slow day in the Mushroom Kingdom. I mean, it was really slow! Painfully slow, even! Not only had Bowser not attacked in months, but it seemed like all plumbing in the Mushroom Kingdom had been in perfect working order for the past two weeks! No one had any problems for the famous Mario Brothers to fix, so Mario and Luigi were completely out on things to do!
This didn't discourage them, however. Mario had been holed up in the attic, working on some toys he'd hoped the Toads in the village would enjoy. True to his massively swelling ego, they were mechanical mini-versions of himself. Mario was nothing, if not passionate, though, as he'd been up there for days, only pausing when he had to in order to eat, sleep, or anything else a plumber would require. He'd been so busy that he didn't realize how busy Luigi had been.
Luigi had noticed his brother's absence, but rather than sulk or laze about, he decided to work on something of his own in the garage. The green-capped hero had been toying with some tools and components and had managed to make a motor that runs on mushroom power. This motor would be very useful, as this world, unlike their home, had no fuel. Instead, Luigi had resolved to use the Mushroom Kingdom's most abundant resource as a fuel source, and it didn't take him long to start tinkering with some metal rods and pipes to make a frame for the engine to sit in.
As he looked at the toy he'd built, the mustachioed genius began to wonder if he could carve out some logs to use as wheels. Maybe make an axle and even attack a steering wheel so his invention would work somewhat like a real car from their home world. Maybe it could be used to get around and even possibly for visits to Daisy's Castle! Good ol' Weege was ecstatic at the thought! In no time, he'd managed to make his system come together forming a very crude sort of go-kart. And now, it was time for a test drive!

...

Luigi's excitement had gotten the better of him. His test was a failure. He drove the kart out of the garage and directly into a tree because he'd forgotten to actually connect the steering wheel to anything. This wouldn't discourage the clumsy plumber, however! Instead, he was more determined to get his toy working! After another couple hours working on the rigging and set-up of the kart, he was sure it would work, but he wanted to have his brother test it, this time... just in case.
"Maaarioooooo!" Luigi called up to the attic. "Mario!" He didn't hear a response, so he decided to climb up the ladder onto the highest floor of their home. "'Ey a-Mario! I got somethin' ta show ya! What are ya doin' Mario?" As he got up there, he was kinda surprised to see that Mario was asleep next to a small wind-up toy that looked suspiciously familiar, but Luigi just couldn't put his finger on it.
After a moment of guessing, Luigi just shrugged and shook Mario awake. "'Ey, Mario! Come on down to the garage! I've a got somethin' I think you're a-gonna like!" The excitement was clear on his face, but Mario seemed a bit to tired to notice. He drowsily stood up, stretching, his fists hardly reaching any higher than his younger brother's head.
"Luigi, what is-a wrong with you? Can't you let your brother get some rest?" He shook himself a bit, but by now, he was already awake and fully alert. "What is it, anyways, brother? What's so important?"
Luigi wasn't phased or even bothered by this. He knew Mario was a bit of a grump after an incomplete nap. He'd be sure to perk right up after seeing Luigi's work, though! Weege couldn't wait for his brother to see it. "Is-a right in the garage, Mario! You've got ta see it-a for yourself! You're a-gonna love it, I swear!"
Mario didn't seem convinced, but with a nod of his head, he agreed to come have a look. It wasn't long before they were down in the garage, Luigi showing off his craft with the air of a genius who'd just solved life's greatest mystery. "Does it work, Luigi?" Mario asked, curious as to what his brother was expecting.
"I was a-hoping you'd be eager to try it out, Mario. It took about a week to get it all put together, but here it is!" Again, Luigi seemed very proud of the contraption, and Mario could tell he was fond of it, but he wasn't entirely sure what it was supposed to do, for a moment. Then the thought hit him with the wheels and such and he realized what was missing.
"Luigi, it's great, but you forgot-a to put in a seat!" Luigi looked embarrassed, but Mario was quick to it. He ran inside, grabbing a chair and bringing it out to the garage.
After brutalizing the chair a bit and removing the legs, the Mario Brothers managed to fasten the wooden seat into the ramshackle kart and get it ready for a test drive. Mario was more than happy to volunteer for the second test, and Luigi nodded, getting the engine revved up.

As he sat in the driver's seat, Mario couldn't help but be impressed and amazed. Impressed that his klutz of a brother could make a motor that runs on mushrooms, but amazed that the same brilliant mind had left so many glaring omissions. Even so, they had everything up and running. A test of the steering wheel and the breaks and gas pedal Luigi had installed after the first test, and they were ready to begin the second run!
Luigi stepped in front of Mario on the side. "Get ready, brother! Begin in 3... 2... 1... GO!"

As previously stated, this is something I hope you'll enjoy, as it's fun to write. If anyone knows a better place to put this, please do tell me. (Also, I'll try to keep the first post updated with links to the story sections, if necessary.)

Constructive criticisms and positive comments and feedback are greatly appreciated! Thank you!
