Mario Kart 8. Unfortunately, Splatoon's replayability is entirely based on online play. MK8 will fare better when the inevitable WiiU server shutdown happens.
Which probably won't happen for at least a decade, if not more.
Maybe not, but it did happen with the Wii and DS. It's inevitable really. I also think Mario kart 8 has the most content as well. After the August Splatoon update it may be a different story.

That wasn't a conscious choice though. GameSpy went out of bussiness, and Nintendo used servers from the GameSpy Network. Who knows how long the Wii's online network would've been supported if GameSpy didn't go bankrupt.

So in the current situation, it would be equivalent to DeNA going out of business.

Actually no. Nintendo has their own servers now for Wii U and 3DS: the Nintendo Network. So it would be equivalent to Nintendo going out of business. I don't think DeNA will take over those servers in the future, I believe they are only going to provide Nintendo with a new account system to replace Club Nintendo. I don't recall reading anything about taking over the actual servers.
Mario Kart 8, obviously. Don't even consider Splatoon.
Why not consider Splatoon?
Honestly though both games are amazingly fun, but I found Splatoon to be more entertaining just because of it having a fresher (no pun intended) feel to it, and I also enjoyed the characters and ideas of the game a great deal.
Both are around equal quality I feel, but Splatoon has more content/content I have more interest in replaying and more free DLC. The fact that Splatoon is a new game (not just in terms of IP but in terms of being a genuinely different game from other games out there) and it is the clear winner imo.
