No, they already had a substantial amount of meat on their bones. But for them to be a hearty meal for Rosalina, they needed more fat.

I think it's quite clear that lumas are what come out of Yoshi eggs. They always appear to pop open empty, but Lumas are invisible until their lumaness is activated by the presence of star bits. Rosalina hunts them and pays them in star bits to be her little servants. Thats why Rosalina left the game when Yoshi came in. She couldn't live with the guilt of Yoshi knowing she enslaved his/hers babys. Yoshi came into Galaxy 2 because he thought Bowser had been stealing his babys.

I was totally unaware Lumas were edible. O_O Where have I been? And where can I get some fresh Luma? Do they sell them anywhere or do I have to hunt them myself?
