If you want to read LNs in English here. http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/ They have Sword Art Online, Gundam Unicorn, BlazBlue, High School DxD, Fate/Zero, Zero no Tsukaima, etc.

I will be posting updates of LNs that are new, teaser projects, and have been abandoned. Also, LNs that have been translated in English by Vol. and chapters. If you guys want to talk about anime & manga then that's fine. I may bring in a few manga's. Finally, if you want to read any certain LNs let me know I'll be happy to help you. And, no LNs are not VNs! So don't think or ask for anything wrong! -_-

Miyamoto on his desire to focus more on the (hard)core Nintendo fan.

Index is pretty generic, but very fun fluff. It's worth it just so you can get to A Certain Scientific Railgun.

Anyone who has not read Sword Art Online and Accel World should really do so; they're both great series.

Which reminds me: They were both picked up by Yen Press to receive official English releases next year, so all of the translations for both of them will be removed from Baka Tsuki by the release of the first volume for each series. I REALLY recommend, if you have any interest in reading them at some point, to save them to your computer now, because otherwise it will take years for the official books to catch up to where the Baka Tsuki's translations are right now.

On the plus side, the official translation should be way more readable.

In what way? Is it because they're in print form?

Yeah, but as he mention before, people are going to have to wait. Rather read it with a few errors, then not reading at all, since most LNs are lucky to being even translated.

Professional translators with actual editors and access to the actual author (even to minor degrees) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Some dudes who did up a translation in their spare time. Believe me, I'd love to read it, but I'd much rather wait it out and support the official release so I can get the highest quality product possible. It's not like I'm dying tomorrow or anything like that. I got plenty of time and things to do in the meantime.

For stuff that never gets translated, I'd suffer through it so long as I can still get the gist, since that's the only way I'll have access to it. If there's an official source, though, I'm definitely going for that, no matter what it takes and how long I need to wait.

Gundam Unicorn, since the anime adaption has pacing issues, I'd like to see what got skipped that may have added to the characters (if there is anything). But for now, I'll live with the fantranslation.

@Canis I get what you mean now. That is true, the typos and other errors that exist. However, in my experience, they never really got in the way much. Otherwise, I would say they did a really good job with the translation: reading the translation notes at the end of each chapter reveal the thought process behind why things are translated certain ways. I will happily buy and re-read the Light novels when they come out, but yeah, I can see why you would want to wait.

As an example of the decisions translators on Baka Tsuki have to make, here is a (very) small passage from Accel World (no spoilers):

“I’ve also recently been doing real cooking practice, but…A task that you can’t just do over again is really troublesome. Did you know, Haruyuki-kun, light-coloured soy sauce’s only difference is its lighter color! What’s with that, is it supposed to be like salt water!?”
“H-Heh, I didn't know that…Or rather, why are you suddenly trying to raise your cooking skills…?”
“That’s obvious, it’s so that, one day, for yo…”
Suddenly closing her mouth at that point, Kuroyukihime gave a big cough.
“…It’s just for recreation[4]. More importantly, let’s finally get back onto the main subject.”
Following her slightly forceful change of topic, she continued her rapid-speech explanation.

↑ Kuroyukihime’s pause here and her change of words is better understood in Japanese. At the end of the first line, she says “ki”, which is the beginning of “kimi” (you), while in this line she changes it to “kibarashi” (recreation). I’m sorry I couldn't make this evident in the English translation.

So yeah, I doubt the official English translation would even bring that up in the first place. It's a rather insignificant change overall (Kuroyukihime was able to switch to a different word with the same syllable, whereas in the fan translation she cut off the sentence to start another), but still fun to know. The official translation might decide to make "You" switch to "Youth Recreation", thus keeping the original intent intact, but who knows. Part of the fun is comparing to see what the official translation decided to do, imo. Just like comparing anime subs to dubs. You get a lot more out of having seen/read both rather than just one.

So yeah, I like the fan translation slightly more, but I think the official translation will be great too, and I will always support the official translation if one exists. I seem to have gone off on a tangent, but I suppose what I'm trying to say is that each has their strengths, and there is no problem in wanting to wait for the cleaner, official version if that's what one wants.
