Topic: Liam Robertson Rumor: Retro Studios and Metroid Prime Producer Tanabe No Longer on Good Terms, Sakamoto New Supervisor at Retro

For the record, this isn't true.

First of all, he only reported on the Shovel Knight amiibo, and clarified that it didn't explicitly mean he was going to be in Smash. He also classified it as a rumor. He also clarified that the Devil's Third thing was a rumor, and he had reason to believe what he heard based on discussions with employees.

Source: I'm subscribed to him on YouTube, so I heard about these things first. It baffles me that misinformation is being spread like this. Unless he said something contradictory to what I know on Twitter or something.

I never heard of the supposed Direct, so I can't comment on that.

But isn't the point of the discussion the fact that many of his rumors aren't true? "lol guys I said it was just a rumor haha" doesn't excuse him. Nothing personal against the guy, I'm just pointing out how many of his rumors were wrong but they continue being posted everywhere. I don't watch his videos but I read his rumors on his twitter and Nintendo Everything.

Oh don't forget he also correctly predicted the Mario & Donkey Kong Amiibo game.

If I had info from sources that said something along the lines of, let's say, Tingle is getting his own mini-game/side quest in Zelda U. Then, other people go around and say "TINGLE IS GETTING A NEW GAME OF HIS OWN" or "TINGLE HAS A MAJOR PLOT POINT IN ZELDA U" I'd be pretty annoyed.

this rumor literally makes no sense. It really comes across as an excuse to be butthurt Retro Studios isn't confirmed to be working on a Metroid game. And Sakamoto has said he doesn't count the Metroid Prime trilogy as canon but somehow he's the guy who is on good terms with Retro instead? Ok sure.

Regardless though, my main point was that it seems like no one told either Liam here or the person he got his source from that Tanabe has been working on Federation Force on and off for forever. I'm glad they went over that at the most recent Direct as that explains a lot. Metroid Prime has essentially been in development hell in a way.

Not to mention the easiest explanation, being that DKC Returns sold better than any Metroid Prime while Other M was considered a failure. And that a good chunk of the original Metroid Prime staff is gone. Even if this is somehow true, it feels so irrelevant to where the series is going anyway...

@kkslider5552000: That's an English translation from a Spanish magazine that interviewed a Japanese guy, probably in English as well, with the aid of a translator. His exact words could easily be lost in translation. There are other interviews as well, where the things he says make more sense; that Metroid Prime is a side story. The games have their own story arc and aren't ''relevant'' to the other Metroid games. In the same way that Other M is its own story. In the same way that every single Zelda game is its own story. I don't think he think that the Prime games aren't canon, because from what I can tell from other interviews, he considers them canon.
