The final challenge stage from Super Mario 3D World...the rest of the game was a cakewalk, but that one extremely long and way too challenging stage really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Huh, I actually loved that level because it was just a bonus, not a main-game level. I hate it when games do spikes in difficulty like that in the main game and then talk down to you and rely on rabid fans to support the poor design choices of those spikes: "At least it doesn't hand hold!!!1". Haha, and I'm starting to think I'm the only one who liked Skyward Sword's Silent realms. Those friggin' guardians couldn't put a finger on me.

I agree with TC on the Fade in DA:O. I wasn't a huge fan of the game in general, but that segment REALLY made me want to stop.

Oh, and the Great Bay Temple in Majora's Mask. Worst Zelda dungeon ever IMO (it makes OOT's water dungeon look great), and I couldn't get through it on a second playthrough because it was just so annoying. Change current, swim through one way as a Zora, change current, swim the other way, change current again, get ice arrows, freeze pipe, change current again, try to get into the second pathway going the initial current direction, glitch out on a wall as a Zora, get caught by one of those hands, get thrown back out, change water direciton...and that's not even including the horrible boss (the fish) that I'd probably put as one of the worst bosses too. shudder

Those 8 bit levels in Rayman Legends. (I don't see how anybody gets any enjoyment out of that sort of thing - Meme Run looks better) - I suppose they didn't really ruin it but they annoyed me greatly. (And I needed the tickets to unlock the rest of Origins).

Silent Realms from Skyward Sword, absolutely agree with that. It didn't make me want to stop playing, but I would just dread doing them. It's like they took those boring Tears of Light quests from Twilight Princess, put them on a timer and added in some demented tag elements with those Guardian things.

The Great Maze from the Subspace Emissary mode in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I hated that part. Never finished Subspace Emissary because of it.

Really?I loved the silent realm parts.

The Harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Bridge Zone Act 2 in the Master System/GameGear version of Sonic 1, auto-scrolling levels should not be in a Sonic game. It's otherwise a nice alternative version of the Genesis/MD's Sonic 1 though.

Sonic Lost World: Hidden World Zone One

This level is not only poorly designed, its also buggy at times and boring. It was pretty clear Lost World was a rushed game, but this level is by far the worst Sonic level I played.

Basically, they went for an arcade style, endless game. But its not fun to replay in any sense. Its supposed to be a fun bonus level for beating the game, but its anything but that [youtube:itfVdQNsDDI]u

Ashihara Caverns- Tales of Innocence.

I stopped playing and haven't started playing since getting through that awful excuse of a level. Helpful hint to anyone playing Tales of Innocence. Use a walkthrough for the dungeons. Don't feel ashamed, you are only saving yourself the pain of dealing with the game's horribly designed dungeons.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

Not a level, but I still haven't gone back to Deus Ex Human Revolution because of the boss fights. I specced out my dude for stealth, so the first boss was such an annoying jump in difficulty.

Understandable. Literally the first boss took me like 20 deaths before I got it.

Apparently the Director's Cut fixes that, which I want to play someday.

The Submerged Castle.

Although it didn't ''ruin'' the game; I really dislike that level; lost way too many Pikmin.

This. I wouldn't say it "ruined the game" for me, but it was definitely a slog to go through those...

It didn't really ruin the game for me, but it's certainly the reason I don't feel like playing it all over again.

They're even more stressing than the chase sequences from Silent Hill Shattered Memories.

saying this ruined the level is kinda stretch ... i gota mention it tho. psychonauts is probably one my favorite games everything about it is great ... untill you get to the last level. the meat circus... this level should be good things. it combines a circus with meat that sounds beautiful right there huh? thing is they kinda turn this into one those levels were you have to defend an npc whos also traveling through an area ... the stupidest possible npc to. little olie is trying to catch bunnies your goal is to follow him to use your psychic powers to hold the bunny that way he can catch it while stoping these weird meat bunny creatures defeating him. this might be tolerable you could just constantly stay at his side. thing is everytime the kid gets his bunny he flys (with his hat) to another platformer thats farther higher away than the last one. then you got go through a bunch anoying platforming to catch up to him (he will most likely start taking some damage while your trying to get to him) you mess up fall when hes flown somewhere else like ... twice already your done you even he has health ... yea your still pretty much done it would be a miracle you could make it back up to him in time. then the second part this level is painful because you do fall you really are done. the character is doomed to perish in water well it just happens that in this part your scaling up the area trying to follow another character while water begins to fill up the whole place. just that alone already makes this kinda dificult what puts it in just plain bad territory (to me anyway) is that this character your following will during some points randomly throw these flaming spikey ... bowling pins i think that can knock you down. that really gets bad near then end assuming memory serves me correctly. when your close to the end theres a portion where you have to do a kinda long levitation across a large gap. he will be throwing these at you you get hit your falling into the water. just ... really bad end level to an otherwise good game.

just a nintendo gamer on a nintendo related site (who wouldve seen that one coming?)

Agreed on the Fade. What a terrible slog through dumb puzzles and boring level designs. It's like they transport you to an entire different game with crappy rules. So glad there's a mod to remove in the PC version. Apparently there's also a mod to remove the pre-Deep Roads Orzammar sequence, because a lot of people felt that a couple hours of Dwarven politics was a little out of place. I didn't mind it though. One of my favorite things about a second playthrough was actually backing the other throne claimant and seeing the other point of view. I still kill Branka every time though... what a psycho.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

I never finished Super Meat Boy because I can't beat the final boss. And I also never finished the first Mafia game because I couldn't win the Formula 1 race.

There have been some very annoying levels that almost ruined a game for me. They may have been bad levels, and replaying them because of bugs/extreme spike in difficulty level wasn't fun, but what annoyed me most was always something else like the very long loading times every time you did have to replay it or a savepoint way, way before the (part of the) level that has the biggest problem.

Even the Mario Galaxy games? Usually I hate water levels but the swimming in the Galaxy games was actually quite nice.

Add Rayman Legends to the "games with good water levels" list. It felt so nice to swim in that game, especially with globox

Check out my super awesome Super Mario Maker levels.

Yeah, but I did find those part really creepy. You have a good run, then.... touch the red water (Which I think is blood) then a white floating entity with a scythe phases through the wall. Then you get away and a guy with club turns right around the corner. More scare than Resident Evil 6.

I'll list 3 main ones, the first of which is far worse than the others as it led to a 5 year break:

1) The Triforce shard quest in the original Wind Waker, obtaining most of the maps was fun but grinding rupees because deciphering them were very expensive and then having to pretty much complete the whole map (via feeding bait to the fish) just to compare with the deciphered chart. Wind Waker HD pretty much fixed that problem perfectly as only 2 charts works very well (getting rid of all 8 would be terrible as Tingle wouldn't be important to the story).

2) Tidal Terror in Donkey Kong Country Returns. For a level in the 2nd world, this is far harder than it should be and I refuse to use the tutorial pig. That said, being stuck there for a very long time led to a large decrease in interest for the game and didn't return back to it until late 2013 when I picked up the 3DS remake. (only beat the game once on Wii and once on 3DS)

3) Torvus Bog in Metroid Prime 2. Before getting the Gravity Boost, Samus moves painfully slow in water so those underwater sections are not fun at all, combine that with the Boost Guardian being very annoying and you've got a not very fun area. Although it didn't ruin the game as such, it's definitely led to me playing Prime 2 much less than say Prime for example. (only beat once on GC and once on Wii)
