Topic: Levels that ruined a game for you

We've all been there. You're really enjoying a game, and then there's one level (or maybe more) that almost ruins it for you. Maybe there's a huge difficulty spike, maybe it just drags on and on, maybe it's confusing, maybe it's frustrating, maybe it's boring, maybe it's repetitive. Whatever the reason, you find yourself saying "get me out of here" and you're almost driven to stop playing said game because of it. Whether you stop playing it completely or tough it out is completely up to you.

The Fade from Dragon Age: Origins comes to mind almost immediately for me. If you've played this game, you know what I'm saying. The Fade is terrible, which is unfortunate since it is a cool piece of the DA lore. If you don't know what you're doing, you'll be there for a while. I almost stopped playing the game because of it, and it kind of deters me from wanting to play again for a while. It would have been fine if you were only there for a few minutes, but no. By the time I was out there on my first playthrough, I completely forget that I still had to complete the Circle Tower.

So what are some levels that almost ruined a game for you? What are some levels that did ruin a game for you?

I don't blame it on the actual level entirely but the first trip to Faron Woods in Skyward Sword is so dull. And it would be an ok area, except it was the first area of the game after about 2 hours that had any focus on gameplay. Which for a Nintendo game is BAAAAAAAAAD.

Metroid Prime 2 has Torvus Swamp. There's plenty of good things about it, but the first trip to that area as a whole is kinda miserable. Between the unfair miniboss early on, the focus on a water level with first person platforming (OH GOD WHY) and the annoying enemies and mediocre boss...it's not fun times. Way better when you know what you're doing, but for nearly anyone that would be on a second playthrough.

I couldn't stand Yoshi's New Island anymore because of the first stage of using Baby DK. That literally did ruin the game for me.

The White House level of Modern Warfare 2 is one of the biggest disappointments in gaming practically. Such a stupid yet cool idea, ruined by boring level design. It is so boring.

A few actually, but the first one that springs to mind is that 'Giant Statue Puzzle' from Twilight Princess.
I mean I usually love it when they throw you off guard suddenly in Zelda games, but for me that part was just freakin' impossible.
Then there's Skyward Swords Silent Realms, these would be bearable if they weren't as boring. The worst part being that you knew you had to do one before each 'temple'.

Even the Mario Galaxy games? Usually I hate water levels but the swimming in the Galaxy games was actually quite nice.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

Torvus swamp. Love it. Great place. Easy bosses. Loved it.

Not really a level, but a large part of the second half of Bravely Default really slowed the game down in my opinion, and felt a bit like padding. I wouldn't say it ruined the game, and there were a few interesting story additions, but overall it slowed the story down a bit too much for me. The last boss fights were more than enough to make it worth playing through that part though.

Yes, I like bears.

One race in Project Gotham Racing 3... or 4(I can't remember) for the X360... I couldn't pass it. So I dropped the game.

I've always despised the Espresso 2 Go mission in GTA 3, and although the nightmare sequences in Max Payne were chilling, navigating the blood trail mazes with the poor platforming controls was pretty annoying.

Oh yeah, you reminded me of the notorious 'Historic Cup' in GT5.
I may have BARELY managed it myself, but trying to get your 'B-Spec' driver to win that......no...just no.

The final challenge stage from Super Mario 3D World...the rest of the game was a cakewalk, but that one extremely long and way too challenging stage really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Not really a level, but the Test Of Strength in Star Fox Adventures was so difficult it gave me a blister. I kinda think it wasn't even worth the effort...

Agreed.

I love Hotline Miami, but the hospital level SUCKS big time. The game is not good at stealth. It's frustrating and pretty boring, to be honest.

Also, vehicle sections in Half-Life 2. Vehicle segments in general, I guess. They're pretty much universally the worst part of almost every game they're in.

Haha. Lol yeh. To be honest Mini boss was easy, actual boss was kinda hard until I knew what to do. (Took hours.) Torvus had a good feel for it, I wouldn't say great place, enemies was meh, but a good Metroid area I've played in a while.

This. I wouldn't say it "ruined the game" for me, but it was definitely a slog to go through those...
