Interestingly, there are studies that have been done that suggest southpaws might have higher risk for mental issues (dementia, etc.) as they age. This might be due to a genetic trait that encourages left handedness or a differerence in the brain that promotes the dominance of the left hand for those individuals.

Elbow bashing and a higher chance of going crazy.

Surely I should get some money off the government for my disability?

@NintenFreak: OH, yes. I routinely choose seats on the left side of tables when the option is available specifically to avoid this issue.

I write with my left hand (very poorly, as there seem to have been nobody available to teach me...including my dad who's also a lefty, but his handwriting is horrible as well!), but do a lot of other stuff right-handed. This is partially due to the fact that the stupid world is built for righties, leaving me with no other option but to adapt.

I do the same as Raylax when playing Wii, and a similar thing while eating (fork in left hand, spoon in right, unless the food only needs a spoon in which case that goes in the left). I usually throw left-handed, though I suck at that either way so I'm not really sure if it matters.

Did you know that 7% is an outdated number? We're up to at least 20% by now, if I recall correctly. Also, lefties are more likely to be artisically or comically inclined, leading to a LOT of famous artists and comedians being lefties.

Continuing (PS3 browser, as usual...):

I do wear my watch on my right hand. This originally made sense in case I wanted to look at the time whilst writing something (handy during the school years), but now I'm just used to it weather it's necessarily convienient or not (and I really don't know if it is or not...it's just normal to me).

The REASON there have tended to be so few lefties is that people used to be HIGH predjudiced against them, even forcing them to write right-handed and totally messing up their brains in the process (a friend's dad had that problem). As we're now being accepted into society, our numbers are growing. That's why I said 7% was outdated.

Does anybody else have this weird habit of noticing when other people are writing left-handed? It's just something I always pick up on, whether the other person is in person or on TV.

I think I read that lefties tend to have somewhat less organized minds than righties. That explains the random nature of these posts.

A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.

lol yeah, I sit by my mom at restaurants because shes a lefty also, or I sit on the left end of the table.
I also sometimes hold my Wii remote with my left hand, but it feels weird t move the control stick with my right hand; I can't control it correctly. :C

@ryanknight717: In order to answer your question properly, we'd need to know how easy or hard it is to control games as a rightie.

My dad always says that video game controllers are actually left-handed by design (have been ever since the NES put the D-pad on the left). I agree with Dicesukeinuzuka...trying to use the Control Stick with my right hand just doesn't work quite right. Could just be that I'm used to it being in the left and were right the norm, I'd be just fine, though. No way to verify this theory, of course.

I am left handed. I hate using right handed scissors, I hold the Wii nunchuck with my right hand, I lost a job once because I wouldn't scoop the ice-cream with my right hand (No joke.), and ink on the hand kind of sucks. In all other ways I am superior to the right handed devils that surround me.

Stuffgamer1

You lost a JOB because of THAT? That's CRAZY! I've only worked one day in an ice cream shop thus far, but nobody seemed to care that I was scooping left-handed.

The sitting at a table with righties does totally suck. Having to explain why you should sit on the inside of the booth gets really old. As for being left handed making you crazy, bring it on. I just hope mine is Huntington Chorea.

@Stuffgamer1 Yeah, the lady training me thought I was being stubborn or something. I told her several times that I wold not be scooping the ice cream with my right hand, she kept going on about policy, I finally kind of yelled at her and told her to drop the whole scooping the ice cream with the right hand thing...and now that I type this out years later I think I might have been fired for yelling at the person training me and not so much the being left handed. Whatever, that lady sucked.

Yeah, that makes a bit more sense. Still it's a completely retarded policy. Why on Earth would they even HAVE such a policy? Y'know, that's actually illegal...or probably is. I bet they could be sued on the grounds of discrimination against a minority.

@stuffo: ianal, but
(a) so far as i know, left-handed individuals aren't a protected class
(b) chances are she was on a power trip and full of it (happens a lot, especially with managers insecure about themselves and/or their position within the company ), but since Spoony yelled at her and was probably fired for that as opposed to which hand he used to scoop ice cream with, the suit would be dismissed real quick, especially if he's in an at-will state.

it is hard using the nunchuck with my left hand when i play wii. it just feels wierd because it is so light compared to the wiimote.

i remember about 6 years ago when i was 6 years old my family would sometimes go to this awesome chinese restaurant and i would use the chop sticks in my left hand and one of the employees would go up to me and make my hold them with my right hand, she was nice but that annoyed me so much

EDIT: Saying that, I wear a watch on my right hand, which I'm told is wrong. Is it?

I'm right-handed and wear a watch on my right wrist also.
I find some things easier to do with my left hand, particularly manipulating small objects. I find it intensely difficult to manipulate the clasp on my watch with my right hand. Same with buckle-style watches.

@theblackdragon: I wasn't talking about this SPECIFIC insident, but in general. It's certainly possible that lefties AREN'T an officially protected group, but I'm quite certain that any reasonable human being would recognize how STUPID it is to discriminate in that manner and award victory to the lefty. That is, if they aren't some fool with no legal knowledge who settles out of court.
