I couldn't find a thread like this, so I decided to make one!
The K-Pop & J-Pop Discussion thread.

I really like K-Pop , it just seems. Different. (In a good way.) I enjoy listening to:
F(x)
SHINee
T-ara
Kara
2NE1
Big Bang

What do you think about K-Pop and J-pop?
Love it? Hate it?

To be honest, all my friends think I'm nuts for listening to it, I really don't know why. x3.

Here's a quick overview of K-Pop if you're not sure what it is:
K-Pop is Pop music from Korea, usually they form Male and Female Groups from 4 to even 26 people, to make a group. They wear funky oufits with bright colors and make colorful/creative music videos. Single artists are also found in K-pop, but they are not as popular as groups.
J-Pop is basically close to that, but it's in Japan.

Added: K-Pop artists are also known for their dancing skills they present during performances. SHINee is best known for their intricate choreography.
(I'm gonna post a video so you can see x3.)

Here is SHINee with their song Sherlock, with the dance edition.

The only J-Pop I've listened to was by Kyaru Pamyu (Or whatever her name is?), and that was Ponponpon, a video highlighting eyes, and another with her fighting a magical onion. So, very colorful, to say the least. It's not really my thing as a whole, but I love the randomness. Toast for the win. As for K-Pop, Gangnam Style ruined it for me just as well as it started it, but I might look into some of those artists when I get a chance :3

K-pop isn't really my thing. I watch a local k-pop show sometimes because eh, not much else on tv at 9am, but I can honestly say there's about 3 k-pop songs I actually like (Bad Boy and Blue by BigBang, and Lost by Kara). I listen to a lot of J-Rock though! The pillows, Asian Kung Fu Generation (thanks Retro!) and Spitz, as well as some newer bands.

A lot of my friends like K-pop, sometimes a little bit too much :/

@RedPanda For me Gangnam Style was the weirdest side of K-Pop, most K-pop songs/artists aren't like that x3.

If you wanna look into groups I would start with 2NE1 (Girl group with 4 members.) and SHINee (Boy group with 5 members. Minho is my favorite x3.)
Oh and for SHINee I really like Lucifer and Sherlock.
Hello was an AWFUL song xD.

My sister got into K-pop a few years ago, and I'm grew fond of it also. 2NE1, Big Bang, and DBSK (before the band broke up) were probably my favorites. Super Junior had some pretty good songs also.

Black Knight: "Is that all there is? No chance,no resistance."
Greil: "No, now you have my pissed off son to worry about!"
Ike:"Father!"
Greil: "Stay away from that knight.
"Ike: "I will. You hugged him, and look at you now."
Greil: shakes head

2NE1 is what got me into K-Pop, I really like them.

Oh and if you really like K-Pop, I suggest going to Eatyourkimchi
Simon and Martina are hilarious, and they talk about K-Pop songs, and they have music Monday episodes. And since they live In Korea they teach you about culture and stuff.

I don't care for K-Pop, but I do listen to quite a bit of J-Pop; mostly Vocaloid.

I really haven't branched out much to K-pop at all, but I do loves me some J-pop! :O

I'd say at least 90% of my music "collection" is either J-pop or video game soundtracks. xD

The only J-Pop songs I know are "Hikari" and "Sanctuary" by Utada Hikaru (they're the theme songs for the two PS2 Kingdom Hearts games, which is how I know them).

There'll sometimes be J-pop artists on J-Melo though (a Japanese music program on NHK World. When I watch it, I usually bring it up in the "Japan Discussion").

I love Luka as well. And Rin, Len, Kaito, Gakupo, Meiko... I can't decide a favorite!
My favorite songs right now are Bad End Night, Crazy Night, Twilight Night, Alluring Secret Black Vow and Alluring Secret White Vow.
I also might sing a Vocaloid song if we have a talent show at my school. I'm thinking Alluring Secret Black Vow, Daughter of Evil or Servant of Evil.
I should make a Vocaloid thread. :P

Never been a fan of K-Pop, it's a bit too candy-bright for me. Listen to a fair bit of J-Pop though. Hikaru Utada and YUI are favourites, but I've too much to list all of them.

There's Hikki songs I prefer to this one, but Keep Tryin' is masterful.

...First time I've seen the video to that. That was trippy.

Other favourites, in no particular order:
Hikaru Utada - Keep Trying, Goodbye Happiness, Celebrate, Beautiful World (...and countless others. Hikki is the queen of J-Pop, after all)
YUI - again, Summer Song, Cinnamon (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood theme, picked up the album and loved the rest of her work too)
RURUTIA - Last Day (one of my all-time favourite songs, but Ruru's entire portfolio is pretty epic. She's extremely experimental and produces some gorgeous tracks)
KOTOKO - Resublimity (member 3 of the CAPS LOCK CLUB it seems. Kotoko's pretty good with some great electro-dance tracks)
Aya Kamiki - Sunday Morning, Are You Happy Now (my introduction to J-Pop, really. Quite Avril Lavigne-ish, upbeat easy listening pop-rock)
Ayumi Hamasaki - Next Level (album) - Alright, it's hard to say I don't like candy pop and then put this album from this artist in my list. I guess it's fine in small doses, and this album (well, this and Hikki's Ultra Blue) is the absolute genre-definer or J-Pop. Like petrol heads need to have at least once owned an Alfa, J-Pop fans need to have listened to this album at least once.
miwa - Don't Cry Anymore, hys-, chAngE (fantastic first album, miwa's a great new voice in J-Pop)
Thelma Aoyama - I'm Sorry (Thelma's an artist that I'm not a huge fan of in general, but this one song is my absolute favourite track, ever

VIDEOS! (yay)
YUI - again (live)

Rurutia - Last Day

Ayumi Hamasaki: rollin' and Sparkle (live)

Thelma Aoyama - I'm Sorry

Yui: Again is one of my favorite songs.
I love it. As you can tell, most of my J-Pop love is from Anime theme songs.

My sister is somewhat into K-pop music.

I, however, am currently dabbling a little into some J-pop music...and it's looking a bit grim. Right now, I only like some songs from an album called Colorful by Anna Yamada :P

The funny thing about K-Pop is that if you dislike a song, and you keep listening to it. It starts to grow on you x3.
That never happens to me with English music, once I dislike a song I never listen to it again.

Like this song Hello by SHINee, I used to HATE IT! (not to mention the music video is weird x3.)
But I had this urge to listen to it again after like a year. And it became one of my favorite songs x3.

I meant to say that when I don't like something the first time, I never have the urge to listen to it again.
With K-Pop, after a while after disliking a song. I have a weird urge to listen to it again.
So then I start to like it.
K-Pop messes with my brain xD.
I hope that made sense x3.
