Why do threads get locked/deleted when there are threads that are like from last year and you try to make a new one?

Why not just revive the thread from last year?

We like to keep discussions as coherent as possible here at Nintendo Life, and we can't do that when they're splintered across the forums in twenty different threads. There are two main reasons why we will lock and redirect duplicate discussions:

(a) We have no Merge function on these forums, therefore we can't just merge duplicate threads together.
(b) We have a rule regarding duplicate threads, but the problem is that the search function does not work (we know this, and it's being worked on, hopefully it'll be a non-issue soon). That said, when a user posts a duplicate thread and I know I've seen it before, I'll find the original and see when it was last posted in. If it's within six months of the current date, I'll go ahead and lock the new duplicate and redirect the discussion to the original so that it can be continued.

There are special cases where i'll go beyond six months, but those involve especially notorious or important threads (the 'Goodbye/Vacation' thread or the 'NL users you haven't seen in a while' thread, for instance, or any of the existing Recommendations threads).

If you have any further questions about moderation policies and rule enforcement, we invite you to use the Contact Form. Thank you!
