My April Tokyo Treat showed up today, which is a big improvement over the last one

It’s got a few easter snacks among other things. One of the snacks is a bag of tortilla chips with a little corn cob wearing a sombrero in the bag, I can tell my mom will like those.

Already ate a small bag of caramel corn, and opened a bag of plum+seaweed flavored potato chips to taste them. They were definitely not as bad as the name made them sound.

So far out of my April Japan Crate I've had:

  • "Strawberry Chocolate Short" - A tiny piece of chocolate (by far the smallest thing in the box) meticulously molded into the shape of a strawberry short cake. Had a strong strawberry flavor, but didn't leave much of an impression due to it's size.
  • "Mini Cherry Mochi" - A little package containg 12 little squares of a cherry flavored gummy type candy. There wasn't much to it, but it was fun to eat as it included a toothpick to use to pick up the pieces.
  • "Strawberry Milk Hard Candy" - Not sure if that was the exact name of it, but it had 8 hard candies that were supposed to invoke the flavor of strawberry milk (they had a hard candy strawberry flavored outside, with a soft cream flavor center). Hard candies aren't my favorite in general, but I liked these well enough, and due to their long lasting nature I was even able to spread them out over a weekend (and share a few with my family). The package was in the shape of a milk carton which was a nice touch as well.
  • "Suppamucho Plum Chips" - A good sized bag of chips that are a sour plum flavor. These were actually really good and my favorite snack of the month so far.
  • "Coca-Cola Peach" - It's Coca-Cola, but with a really powerful peach flavor. It was insanely sweet, but I really liked it (it was in a bottle about the size of 16oz).
  • A grape hard candy - Can't remember the name of it (it had a turtle on the packaging), but it had a good flavor (I think it was supposed to come with a slip of paper that would "tell your fortune", based on if it lined up with the color of your candy, but I didn't see one, so maybe I read it wrong).
  • "Felix Gum" - A piece of gum branded with the titular cartoon cat. Flavor didn't last long, but since it was made to be split in two I enjoyed it over two days.
  • "Mochitto Ichigo" - A package that had two strawberry filled mochi snacks. It had an unusual texture (almost marshmallow like, but different), and was the most "Japanese" snack I've had so far, but it was interesting trying it out (I'd like to try it again one day).

So far I have about the same number of items left to try as well.

Japanese candies and gummies always have great grape flavoring. It’s like their speciality almost. Looks like we both got sour plum chips, mine were from calbee though.

We opened the tortilla chip bag. They have a very strong flavor, exactly like tender yellow corn, which I’m not a big fan of. Mother liked them though, as usual. Apparently the brand is named Don Taco, according to the booklet.

May's Japan Crate is apparently going to have "Okinawa Farmer's Market" as it's theme. Maybe it'll have more traditional Japanese snacks? I'm guessing a lot of vegetable flavored items? Not sure what kind of snacks are associated with Okinawa in particular, so it should be interesting.

June meanwhile will be much more flashy, as it will be "Japan Crate X My Hero Academia". I Imagine it'll be a lot like the Attack on Titan crate they did back in January (the box itself had an AoT paintjob. The booklet that goes over the snack selection was larger in size, as it also went over the series' premise, and I think had a special mini manga involving the show's characters eating candy. It had a small AoT collector's item. The snack selection was, very loosely, inspired by the show).

My May Japan Crate showed up today! (Just in time too, as I just finished up the last item from my last box)

Anyhow, for the other half of my April crate:

  • Sonomanma Peach - A pack that had three gumballs in it (two peach flavored, one sour). I think the gist of it would be to split amongst 3 people to see who gets the sour one. I just had one for three days in a row. They had a really powerful flavor, which was nice coming off the Felix Gum I mentioned before.
  • Treasures of the Princess - A package that had two jam filled cookies in it. They were pretty much Fig Newtons in terms of texture & taste.
  • Shimichoco Caramel Macchiato - These were amazing. Best thing in the crate bar none. They were star shaped rice or corn puffs (think like a Cheetoh, but much more light and airy), with a caramel macchiato flavoring. Simply fantastic.
  • Dokidoki Fishing - A D.I.Y. candy kit. Pretty much it had a mold with fish shaped indentions, and you were supposed to run a string through them all (with a fishing rod at the end), fill them with a candy powder (grape flavored), and cover in water so the powder hardens. After 5 minutes they should be hard enough that you pull on the fishing rod, popping out all the fish shaped candy. In practice, I couldn't get the string to stay down, so I abandoned that part, but I successfully made the candies. The grape flavor was strong and good, but the texture was grainy. Neat idea though.
  • Mini Peach - Little peach flavored capsule candies (think PEZ or SweetTarts) in a container shaped like a soda can. These were pretty decent.
  • Marie Biscuits - a box of Hello Kitty branded vanilla wafers. There were six packages of three cookies. I gave away two packs, and ate the other 4 one day at a time. They weren't particularly special, but they tasted nice.
  • Puchi Strawberry Sandwich Cookies - A package that had a bunch of little strawberry flavored sandwich cookies (think little Oreos). The strawberry flavor was strong and I liked them.

I probably won’t see my May box any time soon, since we will spend a few weeks away from home. Hopefully the housitter will be there to receive it.

Your April box seems themed around pretty pink things, the fishing diy seems a bit out of place. I’ve seen it on YouTube before, and that person had problems with the string too.

@Yosheel, Yeah, April's theme was Hanabi (flower viewing) to coincide with the Sakura bloom, which was why most things had pink or red packaging (only downside seemed to have been the limited amount of flavors, with the vast majority being either peach, cherry, or strawberry).

May's is Okinawa Farmer's Market, and seems to be mostly fruit flavored again, but with much greater variety (I've noticed Orange flavored chews, a Grape hard candy, some sort of Banana cakes, a Green Apple hard candy, Peach chews, and even a Melon flavored Creme Soda).

Of course I'll go more in depth into everything once I've started to dig in.

Yay! My May Umai Crate (the noodle one) showed up today. The bonus item in this one is a pair of chopsticks.

Still have three packs left over from my last box though, as I don't really use the stove (ate all the bowls though). This one only has 3 bowls, and 4 packs (the last one was the other way around), so I really should get to the packs one of these days.
