I feel trolled by Nintendo. Early this year they admitted that part of their struggles to get units shifted was because the 3DS was currently essentially "that console to play Mario games on" and nothing else. I had taken that to mean a much-needed respite for the portly plumber. Instead, they've announced 3 more things starring the 'bros for this years' release, except that green is the new red.
I love me some Mario, but let's put emphasis there on the some. Not "I love me a relentless samey rainbow storm of thousands upon thousands of Mario games." Part of me is really looking forward to Mario & Luigi - particularly since it seems to include actual original characters and a good sense of humour, something Sticker Star forgot to do (amongst other things) - but part of me is just thinking "oh goody. Yet more Mario." We don't usually need 2 Mario RPGs released within 2 years of each other, let alone 6 months.
Also Nintendo, you don't win continued third-party support by flooding the consoles with your biggest franchise.
online games include: Mario Kart 8, Mario Kart 7, Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS, Super Mario Maker and Splatoon.

I though it was the year of the Wario, due how greedy Nintendo is.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
It's simply convenient for Nintendo to call this the 'Year of Luigi' to try and hide the fact that they're simply making more Mario games and don't actually care about Luigi. Luigi's Mansion was coming out regardless, so the only extra this year really has is the NSMBU Luigi level pack. (The new Mario and Luigi game is again a Mario game). With only one game this year featuring Luigi as the main character I'd hardly call this his year.

I dunno, making one of the more ambitious DLCs I've ever heard of (if more in size and scope than anything) and having the next Mario and Luigi take entirely inside of Luigi's dreams is more than I'd expect.
also they apparently care about Luigi more than at least 1/3 of their IPs so...
I'm a bit disappointed that Nintendo has to rely on Mario so much but if it's to stop the Wii U Mario games from being released too early/being no where near as awesome as they could be, I can accept it. And none of the games are exactly like every Mario game of the past few years, which is all I ask for.
Yeah, you can't really compare New Super Mario Bros. 2 to Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon very well, they both have a different atmosphere and different gameplay and different story and a diffeent purpose in the game...
I'm the first one to hate on Mario but these games are different then what we've been getting the past couple of years. Golf hasn't been done in years neither has the other two coming out which I'm excited for all three where I wasn't as thrilled with the last 3 outings from Mario other then sticker star! As for the direct I'm sure they are saving other announcements for other franchises at a later date or E3! Just give me good games is all I care Mario or not!

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
I approve of this. Interestingly, after seeing this quick doodle, Captain Regenold (the artist) makes a good point. Note how Luigi's first appearance was in the game Mario Bros., which was released in 1983 and now it's 2013.
Guys, the Year of Luigi is Luigi's 30th Anniversary!

No way! I can't believe I didn't notice that.
I'm really excited for all these games with Luigi in them.

Wow, I didn't even realize that. That makes sense.
Where was the love for Wario last year during his 20th anniversary?
Eh thought Nintendo said they wanted Mario to rest after having around 5 Mario related games out last year. Meanwhile where is more stuff like Dillon and star fox.
WAT!
