We all get excited for new released of games, movies, etc. But except for a few games and movies, the final result can be bad. I was so excited for animal crossing city folk but found it was an exact copy of the ds game! and i am a star wars fan and was thrilled to see another movie on the big screens, but the clone wars was a load of crap, and it wasted 10 bucks outa my wallet. So will new games like Scribblenauts and movies like Avatar be heavilly praised before their release, and be a load of crap when brought to the public? Weigh in
The only thing that truly sucks about anticipation is when things get overhyped and then turn out to only be "good" instead of "GREETEST THANG EVAR" (eg, Star Wars prequels, The Conduit).
As an aside, with all the hype around Avatar, i'm half-expecting it to fall on its face (game and movie). Cameron is awesome, but often overrated b/c of his technical and visionary genius (like Lucas, who is undoubtedly a technical master, but can't write believeable dialogue or sufficiently direct mediocre actors). That being said, i will have no problem if i am completely wrong.
I used to get all amped for new releases and would but standing front and center day 1 but after some time I figured out, especially in the case of game systems, that it's ALWAYS better to wait a month or two. In regards to consoles, it's because that first wave always seems to have an insane failure wait for all companies (save the, I got mine day 1...I get it, your the exception, congrats to you).
As for Avatar...I'm getting a huge Waterworld vibe from the hype and time it's taking to get this movie out.

Everything you said is true, though I did really like the Star Wars prequels, and even the newest Indiana Jones I thought was really good.
Waitin for sex is ok.(as long as I ain't waiting to long ) Games and movies not so much ,they usually can't live up to the hype IMO. Best just to carry on with your lives till it comes out and judge for yourselves. It's not as if we haven't got loads of great stuff to keep us busy in the meantime

Yes! That's exactly how i meant. Just this feeling of "meh" that's going to lead to a lot of disapointed people. For the record though, Waterworld wasn't really bad, just overblown and overhyped.
And @grenworthshero: I really liked the Star Wars prequels too (though i am an admittedly biased SW fanboy); the majority of the backlash against them has been borne by the aforementioned "it's only good, not AWESOMESAUCE" as well as what they had to live up to, the excellent, iconic, changed-the-movie-biz-forever Original Trilogy
