Are we seeing the end, or at least a decline, of Nintendo Directs in light of the passing of its main host?
I know its only been 7 weeks since our E3 presentation, and 3 weeks since Iwata's passing, but it sure seems like a lot of big Nintendo Direct material is getting released on their twitter and YouTube channel:
There has not been a Nintendo Direct, specific game Direct, or Nintendo Direct Mini in any region in July 2015. According to wikipedia, the only time this happened in a month across the lifetime of the Wii U was last December (which is understandable for a December, because they usually hold off til the new year to start making announcements).
Am I on to something, or am I just over-speculating? After all, it's not like any of this news is a fully-fledged new reveal, though not every Nintendo Direct has those, especially after E3. Are they simply waiting for a new President to be elected before they choose a new face for the Direct? If this is the case, then why hasn't Nintendo of America taken over like they have in the past? Or are they looking for a new way to deliver exciting information, since it would be disrespectful for someone to take Iwata's place?
What do you all think? I'd like to hear your opinion.
Inb4 Nintendo Direct is announced in the next couple of hours. But no seriously I think you're onto something, though I wouldn't jump to conclusions as Iwata's death definitely had an impact in some way, they could even have already recorded the July/August Direct but had Iwata in it, and decided to cancel it as a result of his untimely passing, for obvious reasons no one would want to watch it now. For now I'd say be patient a little longer, they know that we are expecting one so if they've decided to cancel them all together they will let us know soon I'm sure.
I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo didn't host a direct for this month since they would still need time to redeem themselves about Iwata-san's death.
But.....I don't think it will be the end of the directs. The directs are the only way to give new information to consumers and alike every month. Simply doing the whole thing in E3 and not doing anything different will only hurt them more than now.
Its probably going to be another employee instead of Iwata-san.
I think, what it will be is we will have Shibata, Reggie and Morimoto-san do the regional directs (EU, US and JP respectively) with the new CEO doing the main sections, most likely Takeda-san.
Now Playing: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Crash Bandicoot 4

It's not the only way. They could put their YouTube videos on the eShop.
Though I do agree that the current lack of a Direct right now could easily be that Nintendo feels they need to put some distance between his death and the next Direct. Like @DarthNocturnal, why end a good thing?
Oh, no. I don't think Nintendo Directs are no more a thing. If anything, Nintendo would continue to air Directs to preserve one of Iwata's legacy; that is, his wacky but brilliant way of delivering news.
I do know we're due for a Nintendo Direct. I'm guessing Nintendo's editing a future Direct to honor Iwata (put in a tribute video, for instance). Truth be told, there are many potential reasons why we haven't seen a Direct yet, but I wouldn't worry about Directs being shoved out soon enough. @TheLastLugia No, Inb4 Digital Event 2.
I believe this is tied to the passing of Iwata and the transition now in place at Nintendo. In normal circumstances, we should have a Direct this August. I think Nintendo will delay it to show some respect to Iwata's memory and to have time to appoint a new president (I don't know how is the process, but they have to consult the shareholders I believe?)
I'm guessing in September we will know who's the next president, and he/she may host the presentation (or maybe not, he/she may have a different kind of public profile). Of course, expect some sort of tribute to Iwata's legacy.
Nintendo Direct is part of Iwata's legacy and besides that it's an idea that works with their fanbase. So, they should definitely keep this tradition.
PS: Now I'm entertaining the notion that Nintendo could have a female president. Don't really know any high-profile female developer at Nintendo. Do you? Or is it a boy's club?
I think Iwata himself would of wanted Nintendo to continue doing Nintendo Directs even without him, but I don't think Nintendo's going to continue doing Directs if there's not one by the end of August.

@Samurai_Goroh: They did show a video a while ago featuring two prominent female Developers. I believe they played a large role in making Animal Crossing: New Leaf and the two new spin-offs. Nintendo is usually pretty good on featuring and involving women.
You are overspeculating. The Smash update and Splatoon updates were already announced. Nintendo rarely announces hardware bundles to eShop updates on their directs either.
They likely skipped July because of Iwata-san's passing.
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
@iKhan: They skipped July due to it's proximity to E3. There most likely wouldn't have been one in July regardless of Iwata-san's passing.
@CrazyOtto: Not necessarily. Remember, Tokyo Game Show is in September. They most likely are waiting until then to show the next Direct, and we'll never know if Iwata-san's passing had anything to do with the decision as they could have decided to wait until then anyways.

If you look at the wikipedia schedule I linked, there's actually been at least one kind of Direct in every July since it's founding.
@iKhan, I recall seeing this type of information in Nintendo Directs before, with hardware bundles and DLC. Even if it's been announced, Nintendo will have directs "fully unveil" them, or even just provide the latest updates on them.
A small part of me wants the Directs to be retired since they were Iwata-san's baby. However they are an amazing delivery service so I'll just have to feel awkweird about it for a while.
