Hello everyone!

My question is simple! How do people know the names of the enemies in the legend of Zelda series? In BOTW you have the slate bestiary when you take pictures.

I am asking because it is weird to see wiki's and sites full with the enemies and descriptions of them with weird names like ReDead, Octorok, Rope (not snake). For the last one I read that there was a Manual of the first game and only that? Does all names of the enemies and bosses come from old shady manuals 20 years ago?

This is interesting for me because I love bi expanding games with bestiaries.

So to sum this up. Does the other game sin the series have IN-GAME bestiary?

In Ocarina and Majoras when z-targeting an enemy you could press a button and navi/tatl would tell you the name of the enemy and a little description. Manuals and strategy guides also had enemy guides/bestiaries.

This is neat to know! I have 7 of the Zelda games but I have still to play them for more than 1-2 hours.

@Zuljaras In Wind Waker you can take pictures of enemies and turn them into figurines, that also tells their name. It's mostly from manuals, strategy guides, developer Q&A's, etc., but sometimes the games tell you their names.

@Octane I hope they make remaster on the switch. I do not own home consoles. I only colect and play on handhelds and PC. If they give me the wii and wii u zeldas on the switch I will be freaking happy!!!

@Zuljaras Considering that Ocarina of Time was playable on the N64, GameCube, Wii, 3DS and Wii U; and both GameCube Zelda were also on all of their home consoles since the GC, I think it's likely at least some will make an appearance on Switch.

@Zuljaras In addition to those above, Minish Cap had the a Gashapon like dispenser that would give you info on all the characters and enemies in the game. Twilight Princess had Midna give enemy names, and Skyward Sword had Fi do the same thing. Other games in the series often had NPCs refer to enemies by name, but that was it.
