While this is obviously an exaggeration, it's also fairly accurate. The people who claim that the video game industry is stagnating are usually the ones that don't venture outside the world of Nintendo systems. As a PC gamer, I have absolutely no shortage of new and innovative games to play.
but i feel like Pokemon X and Y was over hyped and was quite dry to be honest(I Really hated how short, lazy and uninterested the story was)
I dunno. It was pretty harsh in some parts (sacrificing pokemon for one thing...though all were saved cuz KIDDIES)
I felt like maybe Gen 3-5 were harsher but it was that pokemon X and Y got to much hype and it sorta was a bummer for people who likes the story & Lore rather then gameplay and online
Playing: Wargroove on Switch and Fire Emblem on GBA
@Aviator Final Fantasy, Madden, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Halo, Battlefield, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Need for Speed, LEGO, and FIFA would all like to have a word with you about your selective perception.
(It is true that Nintendo is horribly guilty of it as well; that I don't deny.)
It's not an issue specific to Nintendo. We see the exact same thing in the movie industry. I never want to see another comic book movie ever again unless it's an entirely new character we've never seen before. The industry isn't so much dry of ideas as it is just beholden to management. They will choose the safe bet over the potential but risky blockbuster every single time. A good example of this currently is in the MMORPG genre - all of the games that are doing okay at the moment are those that stick to the WoW playbook.
I'm a huge fan of the Zelda and Metroid series myself, but new IPs have the potential for amazing. I remember playing the original Thief: The Dark Project back in '99 and just being completely blown away by practically every facet of the game. It's titles like that that keep the industry from stagnating. Unfortunately, as games become more and more expensive to develop, we're seeing more and more of this. Luckily we have indie devs to keep the larger houses on their toes.

Well I wouldn't exactly put Fallout in the same catagory as, say NFS or CoD, because Bethesda has only done one game and working on a new one. But I see your point

To be fair, they all sucked story wise and were all more of the same. Anyone expecting a good story was setting themselves up for disappointment

I dunno if you've been on the eShop lately but I've seen a ton of new Nintendo IP there. There's also been some new retail IP too, although sparingly. I guess it does get drowned out a little by the safe sequels though.
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
The Wonderful 101 was a new IP and it crashed and burned though half of that is Nintendo's own fault. Having a new IP is really only ideal if you push your weight around it.
re Pokemon XY: It was a good game but it worked as more of a anniversay best of game more than anything. Plus the game becomes terribly balanced once you get exp share.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.

Currently playing: ARK: Survival Evolved, Splatoon I AM STILL NEAR-PERFECT!!!
don't mean to be rude, but the game theorists overexaggerate
that is true. i'm only sub because i like his actual GAME theories (about stuff in games), not his other Game Market (right word?) theories (like his "WiiU is awful" and his this video). i think his actual game theories are fun to watch, but when he tries to be serious, i lol.
i am part of a social group interested in uniting the world by painting it blue.
Blue blue.
They're comparing to different nintendo consoles (wii u and virtual boy) but not contrasting. They believe the Wii U will flunk exactly like the vb, but i believe the wiiu will survive because of its second touch screen but they believe it will fail it. I mean, at least they counter-acted this and tried to explain why they believed it, but kinda harsh.
Do you like videogames? If so, you must know
It's dangerous to go Alone.
There are new franchises released, problem is, they're not good, not coverd at all, or just a rehash with new title. Sometimes, the idea for the game is good, but it should be left as an idea, like 10$ for 1 level in a buggy game about goat. That's some expensive joke.

I don't think they meant that the Wii U will fail exactly like the Virtual Boy. They made a point by comparing the two, the same things that the Wii U can be criticized for, are what made the Virtual Boy to what it is today, almost non-existent. The Wii U won't fail like the VB though, it'll probably sell around 25 million consoles, like the GameCube did. You cannot deny, however, that the Wii U won't do as good as the PS4. Even most people will say that's not a problem, we all know that more sales = more interested third party developers.
All in all, the Wii U won't do terrible in terms of sales, however it could've done a lot better.

DON'T DARE TO TALK CRAP ABOUT GOAT SIMULATOR. IT'S THE GREATEST GODSEND EVER.
