Topic: Is Nintendo going to make a Mario Sunshine 2?

Since Mario 64 had a remake on the Ds, Mario World/Yoshi's Island had a sequel on the Ds and Wii U, Mario Land also having a sequel on the 3Ds, Mario Galaxy having a sequel on the Wii and Mario Bros getting a boatload of sequels, even Luigi's Mansion got a sequel on the 3Ds. So why not Mario Sunshine, it doesn't have to be a direct sequel just a Mario game sharing a similar setting and name. Why doesn't Mario Sunshine get a sequel on the Wii U, where everything that made the first one bad would be gone or improved upon in the second one.

It had such an amazing setting, one of the best settings and controls in a Mario game, it's graphics would definitely be jaw-dropping in Hd. Without Mario Sunshine i wouldn't have gotten into the Mario franchise. It's the second Mario game i have ever played, enjoying it more than Mario 64 which was my first Mario game. If someone can start a petition or a fan-page/letter to Nintendo in bringing a sequel to an underrated Mario game, Mario Sunshine that has so much potential please let me know, it's one of those games that Nintendo should bring back, at least a sequel.

The upsides to Mario Sunshine

Amazing setting (the tropical beach theme is awesome)

Great graphics for it's time (those bright colourful graphics)

Fantastic controls (flips, rooftop running, wall jumping, diving, sliding)

Those amazing platforming levels where Fludd the water nozzle gets taken away from you

Fantastic music that is memorable to this day

Open world like experience (so much to do and explore)

Downsides to Mario Sunshine

Repetitive (Constantly cleaning up and sometimes fighting the same bosses over)

Disappointing story (Story doesn't make sense and ruins the setting for a holiday like Mario game and you have to save Peach again!)

Lack of variety in missions (Having to always use the Fludd and fighting bosses that seem to appear innocent plus Mario is beating them instead of helping them)

Yoshi can't swim

Takashi Tezuka, producer of the upcoming Yoshi's Woolly World said that he would love to try and convince Nintendo to let him produce "Super Mario Sunshine 2" after he's finished Yoshi's Woolly World. So there's some hope.

Cool that sounds awesome, i knew he was interested in doing it, but never knew he wanted to do it right after Mario Maker and Yoshi's Wooly World.

Really.....? Just hope it's on Wii U, don't get me wrong handhelds are OK and i have a 3ds, but i feel if you want the best out of a Nintendo game, it's gotta come out for the Wii u, especially super Mario sunshine, LOVE THAT GAME!

Sincerely your biggest Mario fan! 😎👌🏻🔥

The 3Ds is doing fine, but it doesn't have the controls and graphics capability of a Mario Sunshine game and i want to see a Mario Sunshine game in Hd.

Most people didn't like the story, repetitive missions where you always had to clean up and lack of platforming since you had Fludd on you at most times, i'd rather see a sequel where all these things are gone and improved upon and the story was awful in Mario Sunshine, even though this game still has potential for a sequel but not for a remake.

I love Super Mario Sunshine. In fact, it's my favorite Mario game of all time. On that note, I don't feel like there really needs to be a sequel to it. Now, I must certainly would buy one, but I feel that the story was said and done in the game. Hopefully Nintendo has a new 3D Mario adventure in story (by that, I mean in the vein of Super Mario 64, SMS, and Super Mario Galaxies 1 & 2).

Lack of platforming doesn't seem like a good reason to hate on it though. Thats like me hating halo wars because it's not a shooter (actually my favorite of the franchise)

Only thing I didn't like is the whole collect 100 coins and blue coins for stars. Those were just annoying and unnessecary. Alot of the hidden stars are also very unnessecary.. I found them accidentally on my own but never would've guessed where they were.

Story I'm kinda meh with. When I play mario games I usually don't think about the story line as much as the gameplay unlike other fanchises such as metroid or zelda.

It wouldn't work on Wii U w/o the GCN controller adapter. No analog triggers.

Actually, it wouldn't even work all that well on the PS or XB controllers. The GCN controller is the only one that has two digital settings "pressed" and "fully pressed", in addition to the analog settings.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

It actually would work on the Wii U, it has all the necessary controls (triggers, shoulder buttons, start/select, clickable analogue sticks, dpad, abxy) and if you prefer old skool then get the adapter, have you ever picked up a Wii U controller.

You see in the Mario Sunshine the story played most of the role, i want the story to be less important in the sequel, since Mario players care more about the gameplay at most times.

Welcome to Mario. I don't see how this is a bad thing. Platformers (and certainly Mario) are notorious for their very simple story, if they even have one at all. That's usually not the point of a platformer though. The story in Mario games in so blatantly simple, that you might as well ignore it all.

Do you have a source? I'm curious, I looked it up, and all I could find was this (which doesn't really confirm much at all..);

''Is there any hope for a Mario Sunshine sequel or a 3DS remake of Majora’s Mask?

Tezuka: [laughs] This is my personal opinion, let’s start with that. I mean, of course I wish we could. I personally would like to enjoy those again but I don’t have any information.''

I really loved Sunshine, but it's lack of direction made me give up halfway through (I don't even know if it was halfway or if I was almost done, no direction!) I didn't know how many shine sprites to collect or where to go once I got them, where the M paintings were in town, yada yada.

If they fixed those issues I'd totally get behind a sequel. For 3DS. I don't have a Wii U, haha...

I remember I was stuck at the part in the game where that beam of light or whatever was in the middle of the island.. never figured out what that was until eventually I read online there was another area.. and then did research figuring out how to access it.

Yeah it totally pointed out in the game that I had to look at the sun while standing in the middle of the light.. that was unnessecary. Took me a whole 2 years before finally figuring it out..

The game just needs less blue coins and more explained "hints" or "guides" or something to get through the game.

This Mario game wasn't like the rest, it was innovative and had a story that wasn't simple, it just wasn't done right. The people in Delfino Island mistake Mario for Shadow Mario and send him to court, where he has to clear up the mess he didn't make, right after there's a chase scene where everyone can clearly see the both Mario's chasing after each-other and there's Shadow Mario causing terror to the island, while no one's doing anything about it, even in front of the police and they still consider Mario guilty, couldn't have this chase scene happen anywhere else, where there are no people.

We Mario players aren't stupid we pay attention to mistakes.

Maybe. Although I'd want to see a Mario Sunshine like game in a new setting rather than a direct sequel. So in other words, Mario Sunshine as it would take place in a ski resort or tourist city rather than tropical island.

I'd be fine with this maybe, but only with a few things in mind.

1. Not every location is a Delfino-like island setting. That's fine for one game but two? That would just be...kinda boring. They'd probably run out of interesting ideas.
2. Make hovering more fun. I never got this, compare to other games that have similar powers, it just never felt that great.
3. Better level design. Between some of the less refined parts of certain bonus levels that made them way harder than necessary and even a couple of the main levels, it failed kinda hard for a Mario game. I would suggest making like...half of the levels closer to Mario Galaxy "linear level with missions" and the other half more open levels. So that means less huge open levels to make so that they're all really good.
4. Make more use out of the Rocket and Turbo nozzles.
5. If the open levels are large enough, don't take the player out of them when they get a Shine.
