Topic: Is Mario Bros 2 (USA) Underrated?

I'm playing through this game and realize I never hear how good it actually is.

If nintendo has a Doki Doki Panic 2 they can cannibalize for their next 2D mario after the 'New' series, they really need to do something like that.

I haven't played it in a while, but I used to love the GBA remake. It was actually the first 2D Mario game I ever owned.

I've played both. I do think I prefer the NES original.

Yeah, it's underrated.
While it's not the traditional Mario game with Fire Flowers and jumping on enemies, it contains that same thinking in the level design seen in all the other Mario platformers. They make use of every aspect in the game, from the digging to the magic carpets. To be honest, I had more fun with this game than I had with SMB3 and SMW.
But I might be a little bias. Super Mario Advanced was the first video game I've ever played.

I think it gets enough love.

I didn't like it quite as much as the first one, but I did like it more than SMB3. I do think it's slightly underrated (while SMB3 is hugely overrated).

A common misconception is that it gets so much hate for being a copy of Doki Doki Panic, when it's actually really good. Who cares, right? :3

(also if you have seen the DYKG about it you know that it really is SMB2 all along)

I feel it is underrated for being part of the Mario canon. So going against SMB1 and 3 did not do it any favours.

However, if not for that it would have been an obscure game for the West like Devil World or Murasame.

I like it but I find it more frustrating than most Mario games.

I'm sure it would have had more love in the US if it wasn't released as a dolled up installment to the Mario franchise. I feel like it should've been released as a new IP (I would say keep it as a Doki Doki Panic game, but at the time bringing a video game to a region with an existing license that was unheard of was a risk people didn't want to take, afaik).

I think it's a solid game. I'd rather play a Mario game but I enjoy it, and I feel like I ought to play through it someday.

Of all the games on Super Mario All-Stars for SNES, I probably played SMB2 the most. It was a great game for its time.

No, it's just an ok game. Visually I find it pretty lifeless and the music gets annoying.

I played it the least (Just once to the end) but because of that I am enjoying playing it now. (NES version). It is better because I don't know exactly what to do.

I really like SMB2. It doesn't get as much praise as SMB3 or SMW but it's a legit game in it's own right.

Its a good game, I guess part of the reason is not as popular as the other Mario games is that the gameplay doesn't suit for speedrunning which is what the most hardcore mario gamers are into
