Hal Laboratories is not listed under Nintendo's affiliates on... I don't think they'd forget to mention they owned the creators of Kirby and Smash Bros. if they did, so I think it's safe to say they don't.

I wouldn't trust that. Intelligent Systems and Retro Studios aren't even mentioned on that list.

Those are also second parties.

Incorrect. They are both fully owned and operated by Nintendo, which makes them first party developers.

HAL is a second party developer

Nintendo owns Retro Studios and Intelligent Systems. So wouldn't they be first party?

Nah, they are still considered 2nd party...

Last time I checked, Nintendo only owns shares of Retro Studios, not completely like they do Monolith Soft.

Could I please see the proof that Nintendo owns Retro and Intelligent Systems? And I'm not talking about a Wikipedia (often wrong) or a gaming website (even more often wrong). Some business resource please, because it is really, really rare for a big corporation like Nintendo to be misrepresenting itself on its own website. There could even be legal ramifications if the information leads a potential investor astray. There's a certain legal obligation for corporates to correctly represent themselves on their websites.

Does anyone know Jupiter's relation to Nintendo. I think they've only developed for Nintendo systems so I always assumed they were second party.

Providing a source for your claim isn't enough anymore. Some websites don't count and certain ones are often wrong. Who knew?

The second page of this PDF explains Nintendo's relationship with some of its development partners. Bear in mind it's from 2003 so some details may have changed, but I can't find a more up-to-date version on Nintendo's site.

It doesn't list HAL Laboratory at all so actually doesn't help the original question at all, but it does specify Retro Studios as a consolidated subsidiary, i.e. a wholly-owned Nintendo developer, so that's interesting.

Anyone who knows anything about research and understands that there is bad data, and good data.

Hm. Someone needs to update Nintendo's Website, then. That's not good form on Nintendo's part. Thanks for the link James!

Intelligent's HQ is owned by Nintendo. It would be safe to assume that they are owned by Nintendo as well.

Right about what? Wikipedia's keeps giving inconsistant reports on Hal's ownership, and we can't find much else talking about it. Their own website doesn't mention being owned by Nintendo, either, which is the closest to conclusive evidence we have right now.

My original link said Retro and Intelligent Systems are both owned by Nintendo. I think we're all aware HAL is a second party.

And when NintendoLife users go on the site and edit it so that they can be right for once, is just sad.

How do we know if its you editing the winking. You said Hal was first party and then the simile said they were 100% owned by nintendo. Now evidence to contrary is presented and you are back peddling as if that was your original opinion. ( or I'm misunderstanding how you worded it)

WAT!

It's still a reliable source whether or not you think so. But if HAL is actually a second party, then why is it listed as a first party?

Oh right, because people like to abuse the edit feature. Like people from NL.

Probably this. Especially considering I don't take the time to fully read your posts.

Now you're just throwing accusations around. Just stop, man. The only one who thinks he has to be right here is you, I'm assuming, since you're getting so bent out of shape over it.

I quoted it and Sony said he didn't see it. So someone went in and deleted the 100% part even though I quoted it beforehand. So I changed it back to its original state.

For goodness' sake, drop the wrangling, please. Wikipedia is not a valid source for anything; it is too easily edited by misinformed individuals or vandalized by trolls — even they acknowledge the problems inherent in their own model of operation. The best thing you can do if you want to try and use Wikipedia as a source for something is pick through any available references for your article(s) of choice and see if you can find the info you want to share in those references. Just using a Wikipedia page as backup for a statement you'd like to make is asking to have your foot shoved into your mouth.

How I look at it, Nintendo doesn't own them, but they are really close partners. Almost like the same company. This is because of their history together. For instance, Satoru Iwata, the current president of Nintendo, used to work at HAL.

Edit : I just read somewhere that "HAL is a subsidiary of Nintendo that was acquired when Satoru Iwata became president of Nintendo in 2000."
