not all are evil, but a lot are. Honestly if there is a different store, and you don't like lamest---er gamestop, then yeah go to the different store. I like Play-n-trade, only because the one in my town is pure awesomesauce, with rock-flakes sprinkled in
Funny thing is, where I live both Gamestop and Play-n-Trade are complete opposites of how people normally describe them. Gamestop is awesome and Play-n-Trade is full of idiots and......jerks

I don't think that Gamestop is evil, i just think the people who CONTINUE TO SHOP THERE WHILST COMPLAINING ABOUT THEM are stupid.
Don't like Gamestop? Stop going there! Rip you off on your trades? Stop trading! Don't like their used game prices? Stop buying them! Vote with your feet if you don't like em Apparently there are lots of people that do like them however, as they are still in business and still charging, and buying stuff, for whatever they feel is right.

I know a couple of the guys at my Gamestop and generally they are nice people However you do come across the nerds who think they know everything about gaming.
Heres a true story:One day I decided to buy Sonic 06 for my 360 and the guy started saying "do you really...wanna buy this?.....its the worst game ever...." The game cost 15 Euro used. It was worth it. Its not the worst game ever. Its a 7/10 game at worst.
He sorta got me parinoid tho. I DECIDED what I choose to buy.

I would only ever buy used games from Gamestop, you're pretty much guaranteed to get screwed if you buy new or trade in there. I don't mind the people that work there so much, even if they sometimes do have elitist or nerdly opinions on games at least they won't try to sell you just anything like the people at Best Buy (in my experiences anyway).
Neither do I, I was just trying to be ditzily endearing.
Must be funny. In a rich mans world?

I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad

And can you go a little faster?!
1. They pester you about becoming a member every time you go to the cash registrer and won't shut the **** about it even when you politely refuse to do it. You just want to pay and get the hell out. Oh and getting a free subscription to EGM or whatever that rag is called doesn't help either. Since EGM caters 99% to PS3/360 owners and ignores the rest (DS, Wii owners). So what's the point of getting it.
2. Used games are ALWAYS in craptacular condition. Hell, the ones at Blockbuster (games that are RENTED out) are actually in better condition than the ones GameStop sells at their stores.
3. "New" games are sold to you OPENED. They open the games and stick the disc and manual inside a plastic baggie. Sometimes they even take it home to give it a free spin (as was reported by Kotaku or some other blog). So basically, when you buy a "new" game at GameStop, you're actually buying an open item. Now, if you try to sell to GameStop that same "new" item, they'll only buy it as a USED item because YOU opened it. Screw that.
So, I basically never buy used games at GameStop. Instead I go to another gaming store (one location only) where used games are sold in near mint condition... I won't mention it's name because I don't want ppl to go there and buy the games I have my eye on!
And for new games, I go either to Target, Wal-Mart or (lastly) Best Buy.
I go to GameStop merely to buy Wii points, memory cards or DS games (since the handheld is not disc based, most of the games are in pretty good condition).
I will point out something gamestop does much better than some other stores. Gamestop has points cards that are nice and firm, so scratching off the stuff on the back doesn't become a problem. Walmart specifically just has the stuff printed on normal paper, which makes it hard to scratch off well.
Just let it happen.

The only thing I see wrong with Gamestop is, as many of you said, their trade-in prices. Rarely have I gotten a decent amount of money for a trade-in (Punch-out!! for $20). Otherwise, they seem OK. The only other places that sell games nearby are a Blockbuster and a Barnes and Noble, so I usually shop at Gamestop, and they get the job done.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Evil? No. Overpriced? Yeah, kinda. I can go into any other used game store, or just look online and get a better deal than whatever GS has. But Game Stop does have variety on its side, due to its popularity. If I'm looking for an obscure game, I'm pretty much guaranteed to find it at Gamestop.

Like Big Daddy Kane?
Also, the only bad experience I had with GameStop was when I bought a new copy of Metal Slug Anthology and it was scratched, so I returned it and purchased it at Wal-Mart instead. Also, once when my brother, my cousin and I sold a bunch of games to them and got back very little money (though, I did buy Metroid II: The Return of Samus with some of that money, so it wasn't all bad)...

because i got a perfectly working game boy player from gamestop for ghetto beatbox drumroll $5 and they have f-zero GX for $5 as well
but i really hate the way they stock up in certain locations (i live in loma linda and KoF: the Orochi saga is all the way in the downtown highland gamestop)
