http://www.ign.com/top-25-consoles/index.htmlSPOILER ALERTi was amazed when i read this article. i was certain the the PS2, Dreamcast, Xbox 360, maybe even SNES, would be number 1. but somehow the NES outranked them all! Wii got 10, GC 16, N64 9, SNES 4

You thought 360 might be number 1? Even for IGN, having XBox360 as #1 would be completely idiotic.

no i think 360 could have made it, its a good console through and through

I went through it and was almost laughing when I got upto the PS3. I could almost hear the PS3 fanboys snapping and going on a rage. Personally I thought it was going to be the SNES up the top followed by the PS2 and NES. I was kinda surprised the 360 beat the original XBox but other than that it seemed to make sense to me for the most part.
An Australian list would probably have the Master System a bit higher but.

This list sucks. More opinion to come later.
HOWEVER, every time you read 3 paragraphs of my opinion, you'll have to stare at an add.

Surprised about the NES???
The NES saved the video game industry from hanging on a thread above the crevasse. With games that were revolutionary, pretty and epic at the same time for those days, and with lasting power to this day, the NES was and is truly the greatest video game console of all time. First-party games like The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. and Metroid introduced frameworks that are still used, perfected and replicated in many games to this day. That, combined great third-party support with titles such as Mega Man 2, makes for a console whose legacy is simply unrivaled. While systems like the Atari 2600 stood at the dawn of videogaming, the NES was the first time games had graphically recognizable worlds and storylines that were simply to advanced to be created on previous systems.

Glad the Wii made it to the Top 10. I wouldn't be surprise if Wii haters complained about the Wii making it to the Top 25 at all.

NES is so overrated!

Yeah it only revived the video game industry thats all.
I rule when it comes to games. So deal with it.

XBox 360 is so overrated.PS2 is so overrated.NES is so underrated.
Nobody gives the NES credit so it seems. I bet over 50 percent of all gamers don't even know what gaming console errr... I mean game in general saved gaming. Those of whom that do not know Super Mario Bros. for the NES saved gaming so to speak. Mr. Miyamoto's baby.
Just for you.

The NES very much deserves its number one status because it is the most important console by far in video games history.
Anyway, XboX360 shouldn't be in the top 10 due to its unreliability. The PS2 is Sony's best console by far but I'm not sure it should be so high up the list.

where's the vectrex in this? I'd also argue that the ps1 was more important than the ps2. still of course everyone is going to differ on opinions.

Thats why i said that the NES is overrated, the only excuse most people have is that. And no, i'm not like "newer systems means better systems, grrr!"

@Mama LuigiYet, you failed to read Rensch's post where he clearly stated some of the things the NES is most notable for.

To be honest, I think most of that list was pretty fair. I could have seen the N64 ranking a bit higher, but other than that, that was a pretty decent list. I'm guessing that one of the most disputed places here will probably become the PS2 in third, which is too high in my opinion (I'd have had it somewhere in the 5-10 range). I can't argue with the rest of the top 5 though As for the 360 (which I've seen a lot of comments about in these various IGN top 25 threads) I would say (and I feel I'm treading on pretty delicate ground here with this being a Ninty site), but if it wasn't for the unreliability (which is appalling tbh) I think it probably just deserves it place, because if you go purely on the bases of it's features (paying for LIVE use is a pain and probably just plain greedy on microsoft's part, but you can't argue with it's online features) and line-up of exclusive games it's had over these last few years, it has a pretty impressive back-catalogue.I'd also have shifted the ol' Cube up a few places, because I recon it was a bit underrated

Well, it's about the same thing! But if people mean Top 25 IMPORTANT consoles, then i'd understand why the NES is number 1.

The Top 5 should have been: 5. PlayStation 14. Xbox3. PlayStation 32. Xbox 3601. PlayStation 2

NES desrved #1.
If the 360 got it, I would lose my ratings for IGN.
At least the Wii wad placed decently but the N64 should've gotten a lil' more love.I mean 64-bit 3D environments unmatched by PS1!Ground-breaking titles like SM64 and GoldenEye!Yeah!
