Liked Galaxy but not in a best game ever kind of way, thought Shake it was a much more fun platformer. Out of IGN's own top 10 I'd personally go with skyrim as the best game of the generation; PC version of course.

there's nothing that's certain... of that you can be certain

Great number 1 choice, good list overall. Skyward Sword on #86, though? Below the likes of Marvel Lego and Skylanders? That one stands out.

Playing: 999, Xenoblade Chronicles and Super Mario World
Finished: Pikmin, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Super Paper Mario and Uncharted 2

Yuck. I'm pretty fine with the rest of the top 20, though. Only game I don't care for even a little was The Last of Us, and I'm willing to admit that it's just not my style of game. Otherwise this is a remarkably good list for IGN. But that that #1 though...just...ew...

@Citzenerased - I'm more concerned Skyward Sword made the list at all...besides, once lists get above 20, they're not really worth taking seriously.

Yeah I really did love Super Mario Galaxy so I probably put it as my favorite game last gen but my opinion changes a bit day to day.

The game had a lot of flaws Twilight Princess was better (I know I'm probably in the minority with that opinion).

I didn't really like Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword. The Wii mote was just more of a problem then an enhancement, IMO. Tp had better controls, but SS had better visuals and a stronger story. TP had a boring Hyrule Field, but SS had to much backtracking and was to linear. This is just my opinion though. I still see why people like them, but they both come about even for me, and I consider them lower then the other 3D Zeldas.

@MixMasterMudkip I have TP on Gamecube and Wii and the Gamecube version is imo a much better experience.

I actually really liked TP's controls. Honestly I thought they were bizarrely replaceable, as in they mostly didn't help nor hurt it. Maybe fitting considering it was technically a port. But of course GCN controls >>>> most things so fair enough (never played GCN version).

I do actually agree with this choice a lot. I consider this the game that brought back Mario as THE gaming franchise, when Zelda had been considered more important for gamers since OOT tbh. Sadly Nintendo has essentially killed that, even just going off their own IPs alone.

No only did i enjoy Shake it! far more than Galaxy, i enjoyed Klonoa, Super Paper Mario and dare i say it NSMB.Wii over it as well. The latter, which i've been nagging on from the the very start ultimately i found was more fun, yet galaxy does every single thing else better on a creative level. But i found myself enjoying the visuals, worlds and music rather than the actual game play, which i found to be a bit of a chore half the time. Perhaps i should go back and give it another try someday. :P

No offence to mario galaxy lovers (including myself), but this was was terrible list. One of the worst I've seen. But Portal 2 absolutely deserves the #2 spot.

Why because of the inclusions? Or because of their placement? If it's the former, explain. The latter, you're doing it wrong.

By personal taste, it's not even in my top 10 Wii games, but I can see why it is so well-loved and why it topped IGN's list.

The placement was just bad. The games included were the best ones, yes, but the order was just...., for lack of a better word, wrong. Super Mario Galaxy was incredible, but, when you look at the rest of the list, it becomes less and less of an achievement.

Eurogamer also gave Galaxy top nods as the game of the last generation......really, it's an incredibly polished experience, and given that last gen was dominated by military shooters and third person action titles, the Galaxy series sticks out even more.

Dunno which one is better though, I like the overworld and story / presentation of the first title more, but I thought Galaxy 2 had superior level design.

It's wrong because it doesn't fit your opinion. But it's not your opinion, it's theirs. A list like this should be appreciated for what's included, not where they're placed.
