Didn't you learn anything from those hikers? lol

They were wandering around Kurdistan, which proves they are stupid and deserved what they got. (not really, but it is pretty stupid to wander around Kurdistan).

It's like walking up to the Afghan border and expecting not to be shot.

Parts of Iran are no-go zones. But I don't want to go to those places. The rest of Iran is very safe, assuming you understand the cultural taboos.

I'd love to tackle the Shibuya district, just so that I can get hit by a car and play the Reaper's Game.

To be honest, I found Shibuya (relatively) dull. Harajuku, Akihabera, Ueno and Roppongi are the real places in Tokyo to be.

I want to go to Alaska! I want to have fun in freezing cold weather and see dog sleds. I'd also like to go to England sometime.

I'd like to do one of those kayak tours through the Alaskan glaciers. That'd be pretty spectacular.

I forgot to mention Tokyo, I'd love to go there sometime. I also hear Liverpool is lovely.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

If you could last 5 minutes there I'd give you $1000

Sir, I believe you owe me some money. It's really not that bad. Expect to be scammed, and if you're not scammed too much, just go with it and consider yourself lucky.

Def. go to Pyongyang Waltzelf. The tours are expensive, but I guarantee it would be the most interesting tour you've ever been on. Definitely check out China or SK first though, if you haven't already. It's nice to look at the place in comparison to Korean culture and/or in light of other East Asian communist states. I wish I had waited to go, because I went before they lifted most of the restrictions on Americans, so I could have stayed longer. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to go again. I'd also love to go to Mongolia, and despite living in China for 2 years, there's still a bunch of places I've yet to see (I'm looking at you, Tibet). Too bad the Pacific Ocean's so big.

Never been to Europe or Central/South America so those would be cool places to explore too. Unemployed now, so I'm holidaying at my house, all the time, yay.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Aren't all the restrictions in the DPRK scary? I once read some travel guides on it and it said you should be very careful what you can say and do. I am fascinated with this mysterious Stalinist state, though. It's surprisingly like George Orwell's 1984, from what I've heard. They said on the news the other day that North Korean homes have radios installed that constantly broadcast propaganda and lack a switch to turn them off, just like the telescreen in Orwell's novel. I'm amazingly intrigued by things like that. Did you see those 'reactions' to the 're-election' of Kim-Jung Il on the news today? Freaky, yet extremely fascinating.

I'll probably hit up Vegas again before too long.
Unfortunately my friends are lacking in time and money so it might be about 6 months before I can get someone to go with me.

Travel guides will always recommend caution when visiting nations hostile to the west. But the reality is that, provided you do you homework beforehand and don't break any taboos or laws, you tend to be safer in those countries than you would be visiting America or England or whatever.

I remember seeing a great map that colour-graded all the countries in the world on how safe they were to tourists. Iran was actually safer than pretty much anywhere else in the world. New Zealand, South Africa and the US performed very, very badly. Especially South Africa. Never go there, especially if you're a woman.

North Korea wasn't rated, but it would be much of the same situation. Provided you're careful, it's not like they're going to kill you or anything.

Mind you, my desire to go into all these countries is as much as a journalist as a tourist. I'd personally like to go to Baghdad and Mogadishu, but those really aren't safe places to visit

That's exactly why I'm so interested in these nations. If I ever were to go to one of those countries, I'd love to write about it from a journalistic perspective. Communist states like Cuba and North Korea fascinate me to no end.
