@Objection_Blaster Like I said, no real commitment. You don't have to join every session, and you don't have to finish the game. There's no way I can force people to play games they don't want to. If you don't join then you don't get to experience the collective playthrough and discussion at the same level of detail, though.
By that same token, I hope that we can introduce new games to people that they might not have considered before. If a game does strike your fancy in the slightest then I'd love to have you join.
@WaltzElf That's true. I'll be gathering suggestions from participants for each subsequent game choice, and perhaps run a vote. Thankfully NL has listsofregionalavailability so we can avoid choosing titles which aren't available in both regions. I also think having breaks between sessions will help people find or order the title if it's not easily available. PM64 was my first choice exactly for the reasons you stated.
@Axoloth Dang, bad timing! Well unless you can think of something better that everyone can agree upon, we're sticking with Paper Mario.
@BedCommando We'll only be choosing games which are playable on the Wii and DS, since this is a Nintendo community after all. When the 3DS has been out long enough, we may begin picking 3DS titles.
I think a good way to keep the money issue down without requiring complete breaks in activity would simply be to include more inexpensive downloads as necessary. Can't afford a $40-50 retail game every two months? Surely a $5-10 download would be more managable. If not, you probably just plain have too little money to join this group.
I liked Epic's OoT suggestion, actually...it's been quite a while since I played it and I kind of want to play the original before the 3DS version releases anyway. Not that Paper Mario is a bad idea as such, mind, but I've played it more recently and I think it may be a longer game (not sure about that...I logged 35 hours on one Paper Mario playthrough according to the Nintendo Channel and don't have an OoT listing yet).
WaltzElf's concerns are also quite valid...you can't really assume that ANY older retail game is readily available everywhere, even the big names.
Money's no real problem to me...I may even be willing to gift a VC game to someone in the US on occasion.
Since I lack a Wii of my own, for VC titles, I'll most likely buy the original (If I don't have it) and play that instead. (My N64 library is massive, good chuck of SNES and NES best titles to)
Bedloggery Currently playing Pokemon Black (DS) Amnesia: The Dark Descent (OnLive) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (XBLA)
I actually just completed OoT what seems like just recently, so I don't really want to play through it again so soon... But I guess I can just sit that one out.
I am down for this. 1-2 month period sounds fine as usually midterms and finals weeks leaves little room for gaming. Also are we only going to be participating if we have not played the game before, or do we just play through again and post our thoughts? I also recommend throwing in an obscure title from time to time. While first party Nintendo games are great and all, I think picking an obscure title once in a while will convince others to broaden their horizons.
Of course, if availability of old retail titles is too much of an issue, we could choose current or recent titles for the club instead. I think the idea's a little less interesting though because we'd be playing those newer games anyway. I like the idea of staging a revival of an old game for a couple of months.
VC and WiiWare are really convenient for a game club. We'll probably be sticking to those services a lot thanks to their low price and complete accessibility. If you own or can get the game on the original console then you can play through on that, no problem.
@Stuffgamer1 How long is OoT overall? I always thought Zelda games were pretty long. (I haven't played many.) I think we'll stick with Paper Mario for the first session because pretty much everyone who responded has given it the go so far. For the next session I'll gather suggestions and hold a poll. Even if you aren't up for Paper Mario, are you on board for the club?
@Vaynard If you've played the game before, you're welcome to play it again and post your thoughts about your second run. All discussion is encouraged, just mark your spoilers. (NL really could do with a spoiler tag...) It'll also be fun to talk about the game with people who are playing it for the first time.
And knowing me, there will definitely be some more obscure non-Nintendo titles in the mix. That's part of the plan.
Gosh, I'd love to have a group playthrough of Endless Ocean 2. We could all play together online! O: Anyway, that's for another time, haha.
I will do Paper Mario. Can we start closer to Christmas though so I can get some more Wii points. (I think doing VC games is the best idea since their cheapest and easiest to find)

I might keep an eye on this, if that's ok sign me up! Really good idea, plus it'd be an excuse to get some games I've been on the fence about. Regarding OoT, that's a bit of an obvious choice. There aren't gonna be many people on here who haven't given that a playthrough!
More laid-back would be nice. I might actually join in a few times if it means I can come and go as please. The fact that you kinda had to get the games for each session was what ruined some of vc-forum's clubs. Since Paper Mario's quick and fits into my plans, consider me "in".
I'll join, but if I don't have a game on here, don't expect me to rush and buy it unless it's something I've been anticipating. I don't have Paper Mario, so I'll just watch from the sidelines for this one.
You're welcome to join as long as you're going to play with us either now or in a future session.
@labrat7 That's fine. It's only $10 on VC! Hopefully the next game will be one you'll play. Go buy it! I'll put your name on the list. This message brought to you by the letters O, M, and G, and the number 1.
@BedCommando Can't you wait? lol. Surely you have a few games you can play until then?
