Do, you have anything covering the Fan?

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Just the TV, It's on top, (small flat screen) it's not covering anything then there's fan ventilation holes on the sides too which are free.

Edit: I just noticed just one side of it is hot... that's odd.

Might be something overheating inside of it. I would take it back to the store and let them know. Or maybe look up the company that made the DVR website and see if there are other people out there that had a problem with the one you have or if the company has recalled it or anything.
