One word. McDonalds. Seriously, they have free Wi-Fi, but I think it would be pretty awkward, just going in there and not getting any food and just using their Wi-Fi... :/
@DarkLink-Unfortunely,my McDonald's doesn't support Wi-Fi. I'm also officialy pissed. I took my DSi to the libary,tried to connect it to Wi-Fi and...IT DIDN'T WORK!!!

try some other places like businesses or restaraunts, if not then try buying a wireless router (the easiest way to get Wifi)

Looks like I need to buy a wireless router,thanks for the advice!
They started charging recently. Also, your DSi won't be able to connect because when you connect to the Starbucks network (bring a laptop and you'll see) it tries to open a log-in page, where you enter your card info. The DSi won't be able to open the log-in page before it's "connected" and so the connection will never finalize. Ditto places like Panera Bread and McDonalds (the latter is unconfirmed, but I think it works the same way).
There may be some way around it, but trust me, I haven't had luck.
What I HAVE had luck with is driving down the road and repeatedly searching on my DSi for a connection point. You're likely to find an unsecured house with a great connection before you go too far. Just pull over and do your business.
Do you have to pay for Panera WiFi now? Last time I used it (albeit a couple years ago) it was free.
Panera is free (last I checked) but it loads some rotten "log in" page, and won't allow you to access anything else online until you click "accept these conditions" or whatever it is. Which means on something like the DSi, where the browser doesn't automatically open, your connection will never finalize.
I haven't found a way around this, but if anyone CAN find a way around, please let us know!

When I was new to the area I did that two years ago. I must say I felt pretty lame sitting there playing Mario Kart online. That said, I actually work for the company now (no comments please), and they've actually been phasing wifi out again because it just didn't draw the business they were hoping to get with it. At the place I work we had maybe two people ever ask about it before we pulled the plug on it last summer.
Any network which require login sites or whatever will never work since you have to have direct access to them without these roadblocks. Maybe try a local (non-franchise) coffee house/deli/cafe? Some of them have free wifi.
@Chicken Brutus-I listened to your advice yesterday,and I FINALLY was able to connect my DSi to the internet temporaily. During that time,I was able to download Mighty Flip Champs and Birds and Beans with my free 1000 Nintendo Points! Thanks for the advice,Chicken Brutus! Now I need to figure out how to connect my DSi to the internet at home...
