Hi,everybody,

I need help in connecting my Nintendo DSi to the internet so I can buy Mario VS Donkey Kong 3 next week.
A few weeks ago,I tried to take my Nintendo DSi to a local Starbucks and tried connecting the DSi there since it was a Wi-Fi hotspot.
So,I tried, and it acted like it was trying to connect, but it didn't actually connect. After about 10 minutes,I gave up. Do I need a router and if so what kind? Please help!!

according to this page, you need to have a Starbucks Card and use it once a month, you need to be an AT&T DSL customer, or you need to pay for it at Starbucks.

huh. i never knew that. so much for hanging out there with my DSi after work. :/

WTF!?!? since when did they start charging for wifi? that's sooo messed up (but not very surprising)

They started charging recently. Also, your DSi won't be able to connect because when you connect to the Starbucks network (bring a laptop and you'll see) it tries to open a log-in page, where you enter your card info. The DSi won't be able to open the log-in page before it's "connected" and so the connection will never finalize. Ditto places like Panera Bread and McDonalds (the latter is unconfirmed, but I think it works the same way).

There may be some way around it, but trust me, I haven't had luck.

What I HAVE had luck with is driving down the road and repeatedly searching on my DSi for a connection point. You're likely to find an unsecured house with a great connection before you go too far. Just pull over and do your business.

I have never tried it, but I think McDonalds was specifically approached by Nintendo to make sure their wi-fi worked with DSes. I remember McDonalds being listed as one of two hotspots (forget the other one) when Mario Kart DS came out (Nintendo's first Wi-Fi game).

Oh really? I'll have to give that a try then.

Well, that explains a lot about Starbucks and that sucks.
Yeah, the ironic thing is my McDonald's is NOT a Wi-fi hotspot.
I think I'm going to go with either derickw69's advice and go to my local libary tomorrow,or start hunting for free local wi-fi spots.
I can't believe that Starbucks would do that, that's ultimate suckage!

Hey, if they don't care enough to secure their networks, I don't feel guilty commandeering it for 45 seconds to download an Art Style game.

Well,I'm going to go the libary today to hopefully get my DSi connected to the internet. But,I need to ask one more question.
How do you activate the free 1000 Nintendo points on the DSi,or is it activated as soon as I connect?
