Hey there. I decide to open this topic after reading the comments on the Best Smash Bros Game poll. Today I want to talk about how I hate the behavior of ectremist people of the internet, and I'll take three examples to talk about it: the game series Pokemon and Smash Bros and the cartoon series My Little Pony Friendship is Magic. I'm a big fan of all the series I mentioned, and as we now all three this series have huge fandoms. However in those fandoms there are many people I can't stand: the extremists, the purists, the morons. On the internet there are many people that define themselfs "fans" of those series but they say "I love the first Pokemon generation, THE OTHERS ARE S**T" or "I love Melee, THE OTHERS SMASH BROS GAMES ARE S**T" or "I love the first MLP season THE OTHERS ARE S**T". I'm pretty sure that those fandoms are not the only that gets this kind of treatment from some people, I mentioned those ones just because are the ones I know better.
But let's get to the point: what I hate about those people is that they try to making pass their opinion as OBJECTIVE, as A FACT, and doing that they give a bad reputation to both the series they're talking about and it's fandom, and it's a thing that seriously hurts me. Loving a thing of a series and hating all the rest and consequently bashing it, doesn't make you a fan, it makes you a moron and nothing else. I even got mad at a thing a person wrote in a forum: the latest Smash Bros games are for children, Melee is the perfect one. Smash Bros U got a stupid clone like Dark Pit and a s***ty Pokemon like Greninja. Ok four things:
1)You can say child to your sister;
2)There are more clones in Melee than U;
3)Greninja is good as both a Pokemon and Smash fighter;
4)How can those things make the whole game BAD?
That's my problem with those people, they try to make appear the things about those series BAD and insulting who loves them. There's a HUGE difference between giving an opinion and being and a****le. And most of all, I'm wondering, acting like that what they hope to obtain? If you don't love a series apart a little of it then DON'T talk about it, if you bash something for "nostalgia goggles" or similar, you're not in the right side. That is all, I want to know what do you think about those people, and if you've other examples.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, dude. But you're seriously overreacting. I myself am a very active follower of the competitive scene in Smash, for example, and expressed the issues all of the games have, while pointing out Melee as the most balanced experience.
So, what am I trying to accomplish? As you say, I'm an elitist, and I cannot deny that entirely. But I am an elitist to an informative degree: neither my view on Smash nor the facts surrounding the series make me go beyond informing people of these facts. I'm making a point, but fans of Smash 4 don't want to see their experience disagreed, just like fans of any game, that's perfectly normal.
What many don't see when others criticize, is that it doesn't matter. I can repeat the flaws of Smash 4 all day, but I'm not even remotely telling people not to have fun with it, anyway. People can ignore statements, opinions, and even facts of any game they like, as long as they have fun with it.
The expression might not fit entirely, but still: People don't offend, people choose to be offended.
TL;DR: deal with it, or don't, just have fun and stop whining.
Dude that's the internet for you. I might be "that guy" you're talking about because of a mistake.
It's way too easy to type something extremist on the internet, and with no retaliation whatsoever.
In addition, if you've ever been in a loud room trying to talk to someone, you may have felt like talking way louder than you need to, even without realizing it.
That's because in a congested room its hard to get your voice heard. People will say such extremist comments because they want to be heard, even if their original message is morphed. They don't want you to glance over their point because its unpopular. Problem is, it doesn't matter how valid your point is, you can't force people to seriously consider your point. Thus, people settle for very, shall I say, poorly constructed comments that will grab your attention, even if its negative attention. Because they want to matter to conversion they care about, even if they're infamous.

If you don't like people having strong opinions then I recommend never speaking to anyone and/or reading anything from anyone ever again. Go cancel Internet service tomorrow and become a recluse.

I thought the topic was going to be about things like political issues before I actually went into it. Just ignore people that don't agree with your opinions. Also TL;DR.
